re: Joe Wright Hanna was promising but the end product was lame. Especiaally the hand to hand fights were good choreographed but redundant. He is a good drama director. Same was/is true for Mendes. Get a good Second Unit director and there is no need for the director to me a master at directing act...

I think he needs right at the moment a project like this. Also Nichols last movies were either critical acclaimed (Charlie Wilson’s War) or he got Oscar nominations for his actors (Natalie Portman, Clive Owen, Philip Seymour Hoffman). He has a better hit rate as George Clooney who got as a director...

But still - why this actor? There are surely equally talented ones out there, who fit the bill better. Maybe it was difficult to find someone who is okay with it to play the second fiddle in regard to the attention (press, audience, fans etc.). I also bet he isn't too expensive. Never heard before ...

I was/am a big fan of F1, there is 2 courses near where I live and when I was married we used to go to the races all the time. I used to be a Formula 1 fan in my late teens and everytime when a star guest was there they showed him maybe twice or three times briefly (only seconds) during the reports and the race. With a lot of luck they had a short interview with the star about 3 or 4 questions. I don't think we missed much...

I still think Mendes did it to revive his career not for the money. No matter if you are a director or actor you have to do from time to time a bigger project to stay relevant so that you can do smaller projects you really want to do.
