I used to be a Formula 1 fan in my late teens and everytime when a star guest was there they showed him maybe twice or three times briefly (only seconds) during the reports and the race. I still think Mendes did it to revive his career not for the money. No matter if you are a director or actor you have to do from time to time a bigger project to stay relevant so that you can do smaller projects you really want to do.
