A Kiwi schoolgirl has been picked to perform at a Hollywood film premiere in Hong Kong.

Rotorua 18-year-old Elizabeth Marvelly will sing at the premiere of Nicole Kidman's new movie, The Golden Compass, on December 16.

The premiere is also a charity event organised by jeweller Michelle Ong. Marvelly is one of two singers who will perform at the Dior-sponsored dinner for 400 guests, Kidman, Daniel Craig and Eva Green among them.

EMI London signed Marvelly and will release her pop-classical debut album, produced by Carl Doy, in December.

Ong chose Marvelly after EMI London sent her material for consideration

WOW! How obscure is that! How did you manage to find such an article from a New Zealand publication no less. Strange connection - which goes to show how small our world has become.

A jeweller in Hong Kong? Ritzy event - relatively small group of exclusive guests, many of them will be well-heeled Hong Kong wealthy elite to attend.....a singer from New Zealand. This soiree will be very posh - gives lots of publicity for the movie as well as heaps of glamour and money thrown in many directions. Great place to network for DC when he goes.....get that tux pressed honey and work the room!

My first impression was: what a weird event! New Zealand singer in the premiere of and English film organized by a jeweller in Hong Kong?

Thank you for the DC news! I appreciate your sharing anything you find out!

It seems like there's so little news right now - only a few snippets coming out of Lithuania. I read somewhere that Defiance finishes shooting in early November. The Golden Compass premieres Dec. 7, so DC probably will start the promotions for TGC? premieres, talk shows, and all that?
