Golden Compass - The Movie Companion
I just got a copy of "The Golden Compass - The Official Illustrated Movie Companion" by Brian Sibley which is being published in Germany at the moment. It's one of a few books accompaning the film (Movie Book, Quizbook, Posterbook etc.). The movie companion gives some background information about the special effects, costumes, set etc. But the best part is when Chris Weitz after a short introduction speaks about
our Daniel. I've translated this passage for you, hope you enjoy it:
Daniel Craig had impressed public and critics with films like Road to Perdition, Copenhagen, Sylvia and Munich - because of that the role of Lyras stern uncle was offered him. He accepted shortly before he came to international fame as newest James Bond in Casino Royale. To become the new 007 was an interesting challenge for Daniel, the date for filming The Golden Compass and Casino Royale sometimes overlaped and he had to change between polar explorer and MI6 agent. "Bond will monopolize Daniels live for a long time", says Chris Weitz, "so we were lucky to get him. Daniel is a handsome man, no "pretty boy", and he has the romantic look of a novel hero of the 19th century. He also is very intelligent and has a lot of humour and imparts both characteristics. Following the plan of shooting he only had to be on the set for 13 days, but Lord Asriels role is very important for the story and we knew that this character by means of Daniel would form the film."
I really loved this passage of the book and I hope I found the right words for the translation.

Thanks for sharing thisFirstsupergirl wrote: "Bond will monopolize Daniels live for a long time", says Chris Weitz, "so we were lucky to get him.
And hopefully that 'monopolization' will not take place. It would be a shame if he wouldn't use his great talent in a very diversified way.
But according what's in the 'pipeline' I am pretty sure he will take every chance to make various movies as he has done in the past.

Golden Compass The movie compagnion
Hello Germangirl,Germangirl wrote:Thanks - is it on free sale in book stores?
the whole "package" of special edtions of the Golden Kompass books will be available soon. My copy was a sort of pre-issue, I'm waiting now for the books to arrive to make a big decoration in the shop. For the german Carlsen Verlag the Golden Compass is a big deal with big advertisement, so I hope the editor will send some posters too, but maybe I'll keep these for "private use"
Sometimes, if your local video store is a small operation - they will hold posters for you when they are finished with them so that you can either buy them or they might give them away....I used to do that until my husband took them all down. Try it...never hurts to ask since they are getting rid of them anyway. Easy way to decorate a kids room too - without having to buy any posters.

The top notch acting in the Weisz/Craig/Spall 'Betrayal' is emotionally true, often v funny and its beautifully staged with filmic qualities..

You're welcome! I could recommend a nice bookshop, but I'm afraid it's little bit too far up North for you...Germangirl wrote: Thanks FSG I´ll look out for it.

I saw the movie companion today at Barnes and Noble but I didn't feel it had enough pics of Dan for the price so I bought The Golden Compass ... The Story Of The Movie by scholastic books for 5.99 instead . It has 10 photos of Dan . I wish they had shown the passionate kiss of Dan and Nic .
I'm bummed they didn't have the cofee mug .
He is also on the cover of a sci fi mag called Starburst issue #355 ,it has a dreamy photo of Dan . I didn't realize until I got home that it also had an artical and pics from Invasion YEAH!!! I got this at Borders fo 7.99. I havent read the articals yet . I m sorry I can't scan them for you all .
There was mag called Sci Fi I think that had stuff from Invasion too but I would get Sarburst instead .
