Remember AskMen.com Top 49?

Post by Germangirl »

Here is the list - new as of today.

http://uk.askmen.com/specials/2007_top_49/

After a one-month period that saw more than one million votes cast, AskMen.com’s Top 49 Men of 2007 have been chosen, and the list is now revealed. We’ve spent the past few weeks sifting through your votes and assembling the rankings of the guys that you’ve deemed to be the best representatives of our gender – this year’s manliest men.

And the boy did GREAT - beating the likes of:

Gerard Butler
Why He's No. 49
Though he’s been acting for a decade and has appeared in over two dozen films, Gerard Butler’s leading role in the hugely successful action thriller 300 finally earned him the respect and infamy he’d been chasing since his humble beginnings. As King Leonidas, Gerard delivered a forceful and utterly charismatic performance that left little doubt as to his abilities -- with the film ultimately catapulting him to the A-list.

Leonardo DiCaprio
Why He's No. 22
Leonardo DiCaprio spent much of 2007 laying low, which is certainly understandable given his searing, intense work in a pair of ’06 blockbusters (The Departed and Blood Diamond). That’s not to say he was entirely absent from theaters; the actor lent his name (and his voice) to the environmental documentary The 11th Hour, and even embarked on a worldwide tour to promote the film’s release.

Sacha Baron Cohen
Why He's No. 18
There are 260 million reasons why Sacha Baron Cohen makes this year's list, starting with the worldwide box-office gross of his satirical smash, Borat. British TV audiences were already well-versed with Cohen's outrageous and often-offensive alter-ego, but the success of the film made Borat a worldwide phenomenon and established Baron Cohen as a comedic force of nature.

Denzel Washington
Why He's No. 14
Though he’s been keeping a low profile for much of 2007, Denzel Washington has found himself on the receiving end of some serious Oscar buzz, both as a performer and as a filmmaker -- stemming from his upcoming films American Gangster and The Great Debaters. The former casts the actor as a vicious drug kingpin named Frank Lucas, while the latter tells the true story of a circa-1930s debate team (the movie also marks Washington’s first effort behind the camera since 2002

Clive Owen
Why He's No. 12
Clive Owen kicked off 2007 with the wide release of his critically acclaimed drama Children of Men, and he’s since popped up in a pair of exceedingly different but equally intriguing films: Shoot ‘Em Up and Elizabeth: The Golden Age. The former is a non-stop action flick that casts Clive as a hobo-turned-bodyguard, while the latter features the actor as real-life historical figure Sir Walter Raleigh.

Brad Pitt
Why He's No. 11
Brad Pitt’s enduring success is undoubtedly a testament to his penchant for choosing off-kilter roles, and the actor has managed to compile a filmography that’s heavy on both mainstream hits (2004’s Troy, 2005’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith) and unique art-house efforts (2002’s Full Frontal, 2006’s Babel). That dichotomy was certainly on full display in 2007, as Brad popped up in the light and frothy caper Ocean’s Thirteen and the dark, slow-moving drama The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

Christian Bale
Why He's No. 10
Christian Bale’s chameleon-like ability to crawl inside the skin of his characters has cemented his place as one of Hollywood’s most talented young actors, and there’s little doubt that 2007 -- thanks to his appearances in 3:10 to Yuma and Rescue Dawn -- is shaping up to be another banner year in his increasingly impressive career.

George Clooney
Why He's No. 8
Clooney’s here because any such list without him would be incomplete. Although Hollywood’s ultimate stud has had a relatively busy year with involvement in five feature films, his humanitarian efforts toward ending the crisis in Darfur have steadily begun to dominate much of his time.

Daniel Craig
Why He's No. 6
Many called his casting an incredible gamble, but Craig successfully brought James Bond into the 21st century with his portrayal of 007 in Casino Royale. Previously a relative unknown outside the UK, Craig’s excellent portrayal of a darker, more vulnerable Bond has led beyond the follow-up film to show his versatility in other works.
• Rank Last Year: -- (See Top 49 Men of 2006)
• No.6 on Top 99 Women list
2007 Resume
• Began the year with a bang, riding the wave of Casino Royale's popularity.
• Invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
• Nominated for a Best Actor BAFTA for Casino Royale.
• Nominated for a Best Actor Saturn Award from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, USA for Casino Royale.
• Starred alongside Nicole Kidman in The Invasion.
• Starring in the fantasy thriller The Golden Compass.
Behind the Scenes
Daniel Craig takes a low-key approach behind the scenes. With a few exceptions, including an appearance earlier this year on a sketch produced for the BBC’s charitable Red Nose Day, Craig tends to stay below the radar unless it’s related to his film work. And work he does. He’s explained previously his ethic is to dive into the roles he lands and give it his all. On the personal front, the divorced father of one daughter has been linked to a number of actresses and models in recent years, including Kate Moss and producer Satsuki Mitchell.
2007 Manly Moment
Craig carried himself with all the swagger of Bond as an award copresenter at the 79th Annual Academy Awards. Ohhh yes

Justin Timberlake
Why He's No. 5
Though Justin Timberlake spent the bulk of 2007 touring in support of his wildly successful second solo album, FutureSex/LoveSounds, the multifaceted performer took a substantial leap forward in earning the respect of an entirely new audience with appearances in several well-received films. Specifically, his dramatic work in the critically acclaimed films Alpha Dog and Black Snake Moan proved that he’s more than just another pretty face. Simultaneously, his popularity among the tween set was cemented with his role in the animated blockbuster hit Shrek the Third.

Matt Damon
..and he did just swim on the success of Bourne at that time, while the Bond showing is over so much longer
Why He's No. 2
Matt Damon spent the summer of 2007 entertaining audiences with two of the most successful trilogies in recent history, appearing in both Ocean’s Thirteen and The Bourne Ultimatum. Matt is scheduled to close out the year with a cameo role in Francis Ford Coppola’s highly anticipated romance Youth Without Youth, and he’ll also flex his dramatic chops with a stint opposite Mark Ruffalo and Anna Paquin in Margaret.

David Beckham
Why He's No. 1
Global soccer icon David Beckham became the $250-million man when he (and wife Victoria) moved to Beverly Hills to play for the Los Angeles Galaxy of the MLS. Between his tremendous talent, English charm, stylish wardrobe, and slick haircuts, Becks is single-handedly making soccer relevant stateside.
The top notch acting in the Weisz/Craig/Spall 'Betrayal' is emotionally true, often v funny and its beautifully staged with filmic qualities..

As Harry Potter would have said about the results... RIDIKULLUS!!! Or something like that.

I expected No. 3 or 2 for this man but Justin Timberlake? Is he like going to be crush me with his falsetto? Matt Damon at what was it? No. 2? And David Beckham??

Which reminds me to vote vote vote next time around.

Was Daniel in the list in 2006?

Why the anger? He´s beaten some of the "most in-actors" :D
...and remember that everybody just had Bourne still fresh in their minds. He wouldn´t stand a chance months after the opening.
