I've managed to borrow my mate's computer after work so as promised:
Empire interview:
'When Empire sits down with Daniel Craig in Cannes' Majestic hotel, we comment innocently that, with his grey-flecked beard, he's looking distinctly more 'mature' than when we last saw him on the screen in Casino Royale.
"Because of my beard?" he exlaims, rubbing the face-fuzz. "It makes me look older? Damn!" But thats the only.complaint he has about playing Lord Asriel, the iron willed adventurer who scuffs the line between hero and villain as his quest interweaves with that of the book's young heroine, Lyral After all, Craig is a huge advocate of Philip Pullman's trilogy, and the production also saw him being whisked off to some spectacular locations....
"Thankfully we got some more money out of the studio and put back scenes originally taken out due to budget concerns", he enthuses. "We've shot on a glacier in Switzerland - it's been amazing. It's the best part of my job." Of course much of the work involved acting in a green screen environment with, as Craig describes it,, "A lot of people running across the set with green backs and sort of throwing them across the room." Did it ever bother him having to share every scene with his character's deamon, which would be digitally inserted later? "Well mine's a snow leopard, so I'm alright with it. There was some fantastic footage of one on a David Attenborough programme (Planet Earth). It's a stunning animal. I don't have a problem with that!"
What you could imagine him having a problem with is the fact that he is now contracted to not one, but two massive franchises - he has at least one more Bond movie to fit in. "It's the first time this has happened to me," he says of this sudden flurry of activity. "But it seems silly not to sign up for something I believe in. I believe in Bond, and I believe in this. It's actually worked out quite well; the only thing that got in the way of The Golden Compass was the press tour for Bond. I know I've got a busy time ahead of me, but that's okay. In fact, I'm also doing a small film in South Africa (Flashbacks of a Fool) with a friend of mine, and I'm going to work with Ed Zwick too (on World War Two drama Defiance). I've got work. Got to pay the bills!"
Dan Jolin
also a little bit in the main feature text:
'Daniel Craig - who Kidman says she recommended "as one of the best actors of his generation" after they "clicked" on sci-fi train-wreck The Invasion - didn't require any correspondence from Pullman before signing up. A self proclaimed fan of the books, he says, "I had this dream while reading them that I'd play this part, but it never came up. Then the production was delayed and it worked out perfectly, because I'd just finished Casino Royale. So I rang them up and said, "What's happening with it?""
and:
'When Empire suggests to Craig that, despite being described as aa fantasy film, The Golden Compass doesn't look like a fantasy film, he beams. "Great!" he cries. "God, I might use that. Can I write that down?"
that's about it concerning Daniel in the interview.

Thank you!
They "put back scenes originally taken out due to budget concerns"?! If they had budget concerns, then why did they shoot them in the first place? Anyway, good thing they put them back in, especially if they are Daniel's scenes...

They're probably talking about scenes which required CGI. Since the film had a lot of trouble getting off the ground it is entirely possible that they were told there was a drop in budget after filming had begun. to film the actors doing scenes where CGI will be added is one of the cheapest things to do really, its the studio work that's incredibly intensive and expensive but say the studio regained faith in the project and backed it up with more funds later that opened the door for them to put them in.Anglophile wrote:Thank you!

I'm not sure this makes sense and it's just a hypothesis as what he could've meant by saying that.

For the Germans: Daniel is with 3 pages inside the new InStyle Mag.
On the front page it says: Daniel Craig - 5 reasons that make him incredibly sexy.
Only 5
They point out: Sexy, Ambitious, Manly, Sensitive, Stylish.
5 reasons, why at the moment the whole world fancys DC.
The man polarizes. Bla….the casting of the role was handled as if it was about the succession of Kofi Annan. DC`s interpretation of Bond was totally new: a pitbull with a boxer nose,(very questionable term here) who sweats and bleeds, an underdog without etikette or manners, who doesn´t give a damn if his Martini is shaken or stirred. The result: the most successful Bond of all times. A gigantic coup, that turned the 39 year old into one of the most sought after men of the world. Indeed!
Because all of a sudden everybody is cheering: ubercool, so tough and very, very sexy. And so mysterious, because in public he never speaks about his private life.
Daniel – the womanizer. He is no cute It-Boy, whom you can wear as a appropriate assecoire. But a man, who can open beer bottles with his teeth and open doors with his foot. Hypnotising eyes, chiselled chin and a face, that looks as if not everything in his life has gone smooth.
Bla……..
Daniel – the sensitive. Craig is one, who still isn´t comfortable with being in the centre of the attention. Who, on glamorous parties, doesn´t plunges himself into it with a fake “cheese”, shaking every hand available, but rather watches out for familiar faces instead.
Bla….
4 pics - from Infamous premiere, from Bafta swaggering on the stage and from the Elton John Birthday Party as well as a big one of him - younger, sitting in the chair in that relaxed manner (well known).
Not much to get excited about, but at least Germany takes notice.

The top notch acting in the Weisz/Craig/Spall 'Betrayal' is emotionally true, often v funny and its beautifully staged with filmic qualities..

You guys get to travel by train , how cool . The only time I've been on a train was from Austria to Paris in 1980 . It was short but fun . It had the foldout beds which we didn't need .The stop was short so we had to empty our luggage out the windows for speed .
We took kids (preschool) on a fieldtrip on a real train in the 80s in Fl. but it was in the boonies and was a train to nowhere . Then there are the train rides at Disney and Tampa Bush Gardens . I don't count those .
