`Quantum of Solace` previews scoop $3m in Japan ahead of opening weekend

Quantum Of Solace - 22-01-09

With just days to go now before "Quantum of Solace" opens in its last territory - Japan - this weekend, some sneak preview screenings were held around the country on Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th January.

A staggering $3m (estimate) has already been hauled in by Daniel Craig's second outing as James Bond in the preview screenings alone.

Coming some three months after it debuted in the UK, "Quantum" goes nationwide in Japan on 24th January 2009. The premiere was held back on Tuesday 25th November 2008 when Daniel Craig, Olga Kurylenko, Marc Forster and Barbara Broccoli attended the Tokyo press conference and red carpet events.

"Casino Royale" scooped $3.24m in its official opening week. With $3m in previews already, "Quantum of Solace" is well on track to smash recent openings for Bond movies in Japan. Despite a Japanese dubbed version of the film leaking on the internet two months ago, pre-bookings for tickets are said to be very strong.

Last time around, "Casino" netted almost $19m in Japan. A strong performance in the country will help boost the international box-office for "Quantum" which currently sits at $384.4m ("Casino"s foreign haul was $426m).

'Quantum of Solace' Has Record Bond Box Office Debut In Japan

22nd 007 film opens with $6.5 million--surpassing 'Casino Royale' opening

Even with an almost three-month wait, the James Bond buzz in Japan was at an all time high this weekend.

Quantum of Solace finally debuted in theaters there this past Friday—the final territory for the 22nd 007 film—and set yet another box office record for the series.

According to Variety, Quantum pulled in $6.5 million over the weekend, soaring past the previous opening record of $3.2 million held by 2006’s Casino Royale.

This strong opening pushed the international (non-US) total for the Bond film up to $391.2 million.

Following its release in late 2006, Casino Royale went on to gross a cumulative $18.9 million in Japan.

`Quantum of Solace` breaks box-office records in Japan with $6.5m opening weekend
Quantum Of Solace - 25-01-09

"Quantum of Solace" opened nationwide in Japan this weekend, the last international territory for the 22nd James Bond film, and smashed box office records.

According to Variety, "Quantum" raked in $6.5m in Japan in its opening weekend. That is the biggest opening for any 007 adventure and smashes the $3.25m bar Daniel Craig set with his previous film "Casino Royale" (2006).

"Quantum" also earned $3m at sneak preview screenings in Tokyo on Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th January.

The film looks set to blast past the final total of $18.98m set by "Casino Royale" in Japan.

"Quantum"s international box-office haul currently stands at $391.2m and is expected to break the $400m mark next week. The film has earned $168m in North America to date.
