Freida 'might pull off' Bond girl's role: Gemma Arterton

Gemma Arterton is convinced that Freida Pinto would do a great job if she actually becomes a Bond girl.

But she is unfazed by speculation of Indian actress Freida Pinto starring in the next Bond flick. On the contrary, Arterton is convinced that Pinto would do a great job if she actually became a Bond girl.

“As of now, I heard that all such news of her being approached for the next Bond girl is a grapevine rumour. But if it comes true, I can say that I have seen her work, and, yeah, she might pull it off well as I too started so fresh in the shoes of a Bond girl but the camera and, of course, the director taught me a lot,” said Arterton.

Speaking about Indian movies, Arterton felt they are completely ‘different’ from the ones made in the West. “I know the [Indian film] industry is a huge one. In fact, I am told that it is the second largest in the world. Some friends of mine in England had Indian connections and they talked about Indian films. That’s all I knew about the films in India, till I saw Bride & Prejudice and Slumdog Millionaire. I found them very different as they had songs, dancing and some fabulous attire.”

Arterton said she was open to acting in a Hindi film. “I want to do films, be they from any industry or language," she said. "I don’t mind exploring my skills and enhancing my acting anywhere in the world.”

Asked about the most outrageous thing she had done, she said, “In my upcoming movie directed by Louis Leterrier, it was crazy being dressed in skimpy outfits while shooting in the mountains of Spain because in the mornings the temperature used to be -2ºC. Then, as the day went on, it would get up to 27º. So it started off freezing cold and then got scorching.”

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstop ... -film.html

Rumours over who will be cast in the film, expected to be directed by Sam Mendes, have been flying since it was revealed the film's producers have been scouting locations in India.

The plot is believed to be set in Afghanistan in landscapes similar to India's Rajasthan deserts and the arid mountains of Ladakh, close to the border with Tibet.

If the film is shot in India, it will be the first time since Octopussy featured Indian tennis star Vijay Amritraj and the plot centred on a cult of 'octopus' women based on a floating island in Udaipur's main lake.

Last week Freida Pinto, star of the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire, was linked to the role starring opposite Daniel Craig. She is currently starring in the new Woody Allen film You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger with Antonio Banderas, Anthony Hopkins and Naomi Watts. She has landed a new lucrative contract to be the face of L'Oreal cosmetics and is now believed to be India's highest paid film star.

Speculation that she had been cast as the first Indian Bond girl brought a swift response from friends of India's most successful actress, former Miss World Aishwarya Rai, who told an Indian paper they believed she was being lined up for the part.

They said Miss Rai, 36, was better suited to the role because of her vast experience in Bollywood and Hollywood movies. She recently starred in Pink Panther 2 with Steve Martin and made her name outside of India when she appeared in Bride and Prejudice.

Aged 25 and recently listed as one of the world's most beautiful people by People magazine, Miss Pinto would appear to fit the age and beauty profile.

While Miss Rai is eleven years older, her friends reminded her Indian fans she was once described as the "most beautiful woman in the world" by Julia Roberts.

"Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is a recognisable face, not only in Hollywood, but also in Europe, and after films like Pink Panther 2, the Last Legion and Provoked, she has proved she can hold her own in front of an international audience and with an international star cast.

"The producers wanted an Indian actress for the role of Bond girl, as James Bond comes to India on his next mission, but they also wanted a famous face, and who is more famous than Ash?" one of the star's backers told The Times of India.

A spokesman for Eon, the film's producers, declined to comment. Scriptwriter, Peter Morgan, who wrote for Frost/Nixon and the Last King of Scotland, has said the 23rd Bond film will be a "shocking story".

from www.lexpress.fr :

"The Palace of Versailles could soon become the scene of the new James Bond. Pursuit in the castle park, dual rowing on the Grand Canal, escape by helicopter from the roofs of the palace ... those are the few scenes imagined by the Film Commission of Ile de France to convince EON Productions to produce the next James Bond in Versailles (Yvelines). supported by the municipality, the castle, but also by the management of the Hotel Trianon Palace those responsible for this public cultural cooperation hoping to land 007 in the city of kings during filming in 2011. Such a scenario would allow James Bond back on the Old Continent and would, in passing, a youthful touch to the Royal Image of Versailles.

According to a close friend of Rachel there already exists a first draft for the upcoming Bond adventure. The working title is "The Property of a Lady" - just like "Quantum of Solace" the title of a short story by Bond creator Ian Fleming. But unlike QOS, some elements of the original story are used for the screenplay - among other things the name Maria Freudenstein for the villainous role, and the auction (Fleming wrote the story for Sotherby's magazine The Ivory Hammer) This auction will be seen in the pre-title sequence. It is a clandestine international auction that takes place during a conference in the United Nations headquarter in New York - a sequence similar to the opera scene in "Quantum of Solace".

"They turn the usual Bond story upside down", said the friend. "Typically 007 chases a megalomaniac and restrains him from taking over world domination in the end. This time Bond has to learn just in the beginning that Quantum already has world domination." That also defines the title: The property of this lady is the whole world. And of course Quantum does it's best to go to war against Bond and the MI6, with disturbing means. "They really shock the audience this time", he smirked. Remember that this film will be the swan song for Judi Dench's M. One of the screenplay's topics is supposed to be genetic engineering and the swine flu.

I feel certain that this role will assure Rachel a place in Hollywood's A league!

Yikes, this just popped up on that website:

Thanks for that very interesting little snippet and 'reveal' Calypso! 8) And don't worry, I'm sure the heavies won't be knocking on your door just yet! Maybe they'll get annoyed if you published it on Facebook but I think we're safe on a Daniel Craig Website!!!

I'm not too sure about the title of "Property of a Lady" however. It sounds like the title of some Merchant Ivory drama and not a kick-ass action flick like James Bond. It could confuse the audience again. :? And, whilst I love the idea of an auction scene and Bond in New York (I can practically see Daniel in a smart suit and mingling with the rich and successful in some ornately decorated auction room now... ), where is the link to the Middle East and Afghanistan that was talked about before? It's nice to see that they're making some progress in story though and the fact that they're keeping the story thread running from CR to QOS to the next one. Like a lot of people, I can't WAIT to see the next Bond ... I just really hope they don't succumb to commercialism and shoot it in 3D!!!

Property of a Lady is the original title of a Fleming short story, so I think it would be a good choice.

IMO the Afghanistan scenery is only a rumour and I really do hope so. I would not like Bond going that way at all.

In regard commercialism, IMO Bond is all about commercialism, this franchise is mostly financed by product placement, ads.......
If it is made in 3D with the same technic as in Avatar and doesn't delay Bond 23 any further I have nothing against it
Cameron said, it doesn't add much to the budget so I can imagine that they are considering doing it.

Point taken Dunda but, since Daniel took over the role as Bond, I also think that the Bond Movies are more about character and story than action or flashiness. My point was that Bond simply doesn't need a gimmick like 3D and I still feel that that is exactly what 3D is. :)
