WE WANT BOND, WE WANT BOND, WE WANT BOND

I think, this is taken from his first comment on it a couple of weeks ago. Dunno, why they post it all over the place again.
We have to wait for the 22 Oct. to know, which deal the voters will go for. Spyglass or Lionsgate. The first would be good, the second not.

All I can say and I write it down is: FUCK Carl Icahn, if he screws this one up last minute and he is known for those last minute ofrfers, which - fortunately - don't come down to much in the end normally.(That's what they say on the Bond boards)

Lionsgate Pleads Case For Its MGM Merger
By MIKE FLEMING | Wednesday October 13, 2010 @ 1:36pm PDT

Lionsgate is making its argument for a merger with hobbled studio MGM, a move that is supported by Carl Icahn, who has been trying to take over the mini-major while simultaneously buying up MGM debt. The timing is meant to provide an option for the current restructuring plan that will be voted on by MGM lenders this month. That plan would revive the Lion most likely as a production entity without distribution and marketing, headed by Spyglass chiefs Roger Birnbaum and Gary Barber. I've always thought the plan before creditors right now is an interim step, and that an alignment between the Lion and Lionsgate, or a studio like Warner Bros will happen down the road regardless, once the studio gets moving again on The Hobbit and James Bond. Here is Lionsgate's release:

I never knew that Daniel originally wanted Roger Michell, who directed him in The Mother and Enduring Love, to direct QoS..

. Since his film-directing debut via Jane Austen’s Persuasion 15 years ago, Michell has also turned out edgy films like Changing Lanes and The Mother.

Daniel Craig, who starred in the latter and in Michell’s Enduring Love, tried to get him to direct his James Bond, Quantum of Solace, but the deal fell through because of “creative differences” and Michell walked away from a close to $8 million tab.

His explanation? “The Bond people—who are lovely—are used to going into these massive productions in quite a chaotic way: ‘Oh, we’ll fix that later.’ I panicked about this, and it was starting to make me feel very, very unhappy about what I was doing and who I was. The more the money went up, the worse it made me feel.”

It was rather unfortunate about Michell, because him dropping out so late got the production into a rather tied position timewise and that's why Foster had just 3 or so months to cut the film (Not that I think, he would have cut it different, had he had more time).

Not so sure, reposting that is such a good tactic. OK, those involved KNOW, Daniel wouldn't stamp his feet in this manner, but it gives the impression, he is flexing some serious power muscle on a matter, he has no influence in. Bond fans like it though - that he cares so much about the Bond role, like he repeated at CC. Unlike Connery, he is not too arrogant to admit, he loves being Bond.

Another extension of 1 week. It surely has to do with f***ing Icahn  This man is a modern day pirate and DC is just the man to leave, if he doesn't like, what's going on.

LOS ANGELES, CA, October 15, 2010 – Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. (MGM), today distributed a supplement to the solicitation package that was originally distributed to MGM's secured lenders on October 7, 2010. The supplement contains additional details of the Company’s financial information included in the original solicitation materials. In order to provide lenders sufficient time to review the supplemental information, MGM has extended the voting deadline by one week to 5:00 PM ET on October 29, 2010.

Absolutely! Daniel has shown his solid moral conscience before. If he doesn't like the ethics of something or someone, he will quietly make it known. In this case, it could possibly hamper Bond, unless Daniel's contract is binding him.

Icahn Makes Offer To Buy More MGM Debt To Expedite Merger
By MICHAEL SPEIER | Thursday October 21, 2010 @ 12:42pm PDTTags: Carl Icahn, Carl Icahn Lionsgate MGM Merger, Carl Icahn MGM, Carl Icahn Shares, Gary Barber, Lionsgate Carl Icahn, Lionsgate MGM Merger, MGM Bankruptcy, MGM Creditors, MGM Debt, MGM Finance, MGM Spyglass, Movies, Roger Birnbaum, Spyglass
Calling the proposed Spyglass plan a "presciption for disaster," Carl Icahn on Thursday offered to buy another $963 million of MGM's debt. He already owns around $500 million of it, so the sum would make him one of MGM's largest creditors -- with a stake of around 37%. Pending the offer, he would then be in a good position to approve a merger between Lionsgate and the studio, one he now supports. Some of MGM's creditors are pushing hard for that prepackaged bankruptcy plan that would instead see Spyglass' Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum come in and run the studio. As a condition of his offer, Icahn said anyone selling to him must vote against the Spyglass plan; a vote is scheduled for Oct. 29. Icahn also stated on Thursday: "This is the critical decision point for MGM lenders, yet we are being rushed into an extraordinary Prepackaged Plan with limited information and input, on a "hurry up basis" that frustrates any dissent. I hope to defeat this "rush to judgment."

One more week until the votes are done. So - then we will know, which deal they have decided to take. What exacly a Lionsgate deal would mean for Bond - I don't know. Nobody seems to know. In the end - as long as it doesn't delay 23, I don't care, but for a reason, I detest Icahn and feel, nothing good can come out from a deal with him.

Writer Peter Morgan talks at length about his involvement on Bond 23

Further to his brief remarks last week, award-winning writer Peter Morgan has talked in length about his work on the 23rd James Bond film, how he got to be involved, where it was left, and his thoughts on Sam Mendes directing Daniel Craig as 007.

Speaking to Indie Wire, Morgan said: "[Working on Bond 23] was short lived. I started work on it and then the whole thing went to hell. Now, I'm so happy doing something else, I wouldn't [necessarily go back] even if the whole thing came back. They've got a tough job. When I was involved last year it was from scratch. I have no idea if they've even regrouped yet with the situation being the way it is. There came a point where we all just had to say, 'look, I'm just going to step off'. I just wrote a treatment, never a script."

"I went [to EON Productions] with an original idea. I pitched the idea. They had already expressed interest and we had met a year before in 2008. So I said, 'if I come up with something, I'd be interested, but if I don't come up with anything, I'm probably not your man'. But then I came up with something and everyone was interested in the idea, so I wrote the treatment, and it remains to be seen what they do! I suspect if they start again, they'll start entirely again [from scratch]. I think there was momentum behind my idea for the moment, and I suspect that moment's probably gone."

"I feel far more liberated working on the Freddie Mercury project. I think for most British men, especially those over 40, the Bond idea is heaven. I was thrilled to be involved... But I feel like it's a dated idea now. Having tried to do it, I'm not sure it's possible to do it. But I wish them luck, because I'm first in line [to see it]. I do think that the absence of social reality in the Bond films [is a problem] - and I do hope they manage to get that in a script - that you can believe in him and he's not just a man in a dinner jacket. He's a creature of the Cold War. I personally struggle to believe that a British secret agent is still saving the world."

"I'm very encouraged if Sam Mendes [directs the film], because I'm sure he wouldn't put his name to a load of nonsense. He's smart and he's British and he would care deeply about the franchise. He's got his feet on the ground and understands what's going on in the world. He wouldn't want to do a James Bond film to make it a pantomime. The holy grail is to combine thought and action, and if you can deliver a mainstream piece of entertainment that is also highly provocative, and original... Everybody's got their fingers crossed that [they can raise the bar]."

So there is no script and they have to start from the scratch, which means a late 2012 release at earliest.
And I'm not sure that we are wiser on Friday

I just don't understand why something so powerful as the Bond franchise can crumble under all the studio problems, articles and what I feel is bad press.
Bond is an iconic figure that only 6 men in the world have held the title.
Well 7 if you want to count Gene Barry doing the Jimmg Bond spoof of Casino Royale
This is power, this is money this is exec's in their office's trying to take this powerful figure down.
I suppose I am on a rant, :?

Bond has faced criticism since his very beginning, what I´m concerned about is that Paul Haggis, a good writer and involved in Daniel´s era, is loosing interesting in this particular project, I suppost must be tough for a writer to be involve in a single project for so long.
On the other hand we have Sam Mendes whos willing to put his name on it, it can´t be all that bad if his still interested?

I know what you are saying. It is hard to just wait for 1 project. at some point a person has to move on. Yes Mendes is willing and on beard.
I was just bowing off steam. :brood:
