^^ I've wondered about that bit for months, but I'm still not sure if it's supposed to be Silva or Bond or both. Like that other bit mentioned there - Bond shooting at his shadows and then we (and Bond, obviously) see Silva as a shadow... having a bullet hole in the same place on his chest as Bond.
The whole idea of them being different sides of the same coin, mirror images of each other, is fascinating. And all those mirrors in the movie are obviously not there by chance.
I agree with that writer about the amount of symbolism. The whole movie is layered like a huge onion. So much stuff to notice and ponder. I just realized yesterday why Severine had to be shown smoking, wrote about it on MI6 and nobody commented, which can either mean that it had always been obvious to everyone else, or they thought I was just writing crap.
But seriously... fire breathing dragons... her boat being called Chimera (a fire-breathing female creature consisting of various animals, including snake or dragon), her "animal" nails... so, she was smoking, blowing out smoke (not discreetly, but in a way that one's attention is drawn to it), makes sense to me...
And speaking of animals, I think I'll need to look into stags and lions, too.
And I still haven't read properly about the battle of Trafalgar, and I need to look at that painting on the new M's wall a bit closer, but I'll get there some day.
I'm sure there are tons of things that haven't even occurred to me, yet.
NB: I haven't seen the SF commentaries
due to not owning a blu-ray player, so apologies if I'm way off...
