from the last issue of Empire :

"Boyle is surprised how much he liked Skyfall. He's such a traditionalist when it comes to Bond - Sean Connery's his man. (...) "I really enjoyed it". [About the Olympics bit] : "We did them a favour, but they did us a favour as well. It was mutual. Barbara Broccoli was very good to us, because they were right in the middle of it. In fact they were behind. It looks easy now it is such a success, but they needed money". Mendes admitted to Boyle that the budget was tight. Foreign locations had to be scrapped, limitations were being enforced on 007's new director. Boyle could sympathise, but he needs restrictions. "You do better work, and he did a really good job of it. I was really proud, because Naomie Harris was in it. He rang me up about Naomie and asked about her (...) The most wonderful thing for me is that Craig is such a good actor" Boyle gives the words a trademark intensity, speaking in italic."

He then adds the Queen asked Craig to stay around so he could have his picture taken with her household staff.

I think, we knew, they didn't have any extra money to blow after what MGM went through and about the scrapped locations. Even more wonderful, they can now relax on the money issues. But its interesting to actually HEAR or better read them addmitting it now. One can only imagine, how difficult a task it was to make it look like there were no restrictions.

Funny!
One thing puzzles me though - I thought when watching Skyfall that it was filmed near Glencoe, but the Skyfall Lodge site said it was a valley near Aldershot with CGI mountains. Does anyone know where it was actually filmed?

Bond and M arrive in the Highlands on the A82 in front of the misty peaks of Buachaille Etive Mor and Buachaille Etive Beag. It’s a suitably breathtaking locale, previously seen onscreen in Braveheart and Highlander.

Considering its fate, you might assume, correctly, that ‘Skyfall’ was a set built for the movie. The chapel looks pretty solid, though? There’s more cinematic trickery here.

Bond’s childhood home, along with the chapel and entrance gate, was constructed on Hankley Common, a stretch of Ministry of Defence land just south of Elstead in Surrey – which had previously appeared in two Pierce Brosnan Bond movies: The World is Not Enough (where it stood in for the oilfields of ‘Azerbaijan’) and Die Another Day.

Excellent work on the viewer part. That is a lot of detail to put into a very short scene. I think it makes the movie all the more fun to know there could be hidden clues in a movie like a Bond film.

Cool! And it's also Daniel's mother's middle name.

I can see M being an Olivia too, and Mansfield is such a quintessentially English name! Thanks Sylvia for another great nugget!
