I caught the 8PM ASR tonight and halfway through the play Daniel Craig asks a woman, "do you want to get that?" when her cell phone rang - Hugh slapped his lap approvingly. The audience clapped. Neither actor looked amused. Patti Lupone would be proud Overall, It was very solid theatre. Definitely worth a look. DC was spellbinding, a complete transformation. Tony nod for sure. Hugh was solid too but he lacked something, maybe it was his accent that's a bit underdeveloped. I didn't feel that he was completely believable or convincing in his role. I agree with a previous poster that I would've preferred to see the events unfold as opposed to simply having them be recounted. I suppose it ties into the tagline strung underneath the marquee "the truth is how you tell it". A lot of dialogue stumbles more so from HJ. 3.5/5 stars.

I thought the performances were really impressive, but it's a hard style of writing to get through -- they do, indeed, pull it off.

Jackman has stage presence but Craig may not.

I saw the final dress and there was one single flubbed line. And Craig has plenty of stage presence. He gives a stronger performance than Jackman.

The top notch acting in the Weisz/Craig/Spall 'Betrayal' is emotionally true, often v funny and its beautifully staged with filmic qualities..

livcroy yeah, the REAL crush is on daniel craig...

darcigatlin @alexpolson Who cares about Sienna Miller. Daniel Craig is what it is all about

DianWilson RT @Whiteboy_Slim @DianWilson Sean Connery number one for sure, with Daniel Craig a close second.

zerbinetta So jealous that @Ginger_Clark is seeing my future husband Daniel Craig tonight I could just spit.

RuddyRoddy +1000 RT @SmashMe_EraseMe : Daniel Craig is not only ridiculously hot, he is a fantastic actor.

AdrienneMokarry "A Steady Rain" was fucking fantastic. Fantastic. Go see it as soon as you can!

steffi_g @mikasounds If you get the chance go and watch A Steady Rain in NY! Great play!! Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig are both awesome in it. :-)

latimescturner Toughest ticket in NY might be "A Steady Rain," the Daniel Craig-Hugh Jackman play. Saw a preview last night. SRO crowd very enthusiastic.

Hugh has the showier role, but Daniel has the better accent. In my opinion.

csnlewis Saw 'A Steady Rain' starring Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig last night on Broadway. Loved it!

Seems two cell phones were ringing last night

@kate_mckean Yes, for reals--last night, two cells went off in quick succession and Jackman and Craig yelled at them both. They were pissed.

SO! A STEADY RAIN was amazing, and Hugh and Daniel are wonderful. But an FYI to assholes with cell phones at the theater: if you don't...

turn off your cell, and it goes off during the performance, Hugh and Daniel WILL YELL AT YOU, IN CHARACTER, and STOP THE SHOW. OK ASSHOLES?

Daniel Craig, in Chicago accent: "no, no, it's understandable. Could you just answer the thing? We'll all WAIT."

Hugh Jackman, in his not as great Chicago accent: "Would you answer the thing? Please? COME ON."

rcachap The monetary SUCCESS of the 'play' in preview A STEADY RAIN owes EVERYTHING to stars DANIEL CRAIG and HUGH JACKMAN. MORE than EVERYTHING.

I actually liked it more than I thought I would. I basically have to echo the general sentiment which seems to be that the material is very mediocre but the performances are really stellar. The play is very unevenly written with some shocks and some stories that work better than others (there's really no JOY in this show at all...the doom and gloom gets a bit repetitive and at times implausible). It felt like Craig and Jackman, truthfully, were reading a screenplay for a movie. This show definitely would work better as a movie and I wouldn't be surprised if it happens. It's just the two of them onstage basically telling the audience what they did, how it felt, how they did it, what was going on at the time, what they said to each other, etc. It felt like a screenplay to me...and it felt very cinematic at times. A lot of the twists, particularly the last two minutes, felt rushed and totally unreal.

And I'm not so sure I liked the idea of just having it be the two of them telling their story. It was hard to feel their pain, love, hurt, anger, passion etc towards other characters who never materialized onstage. It's hard to understand these feelings when there's only one side being fully represented. It's an uneven work but it's a quick 90 minutes and it's being given the golden treatment because it's being performed by Craig and Jackman.

The two of them onstage create electricity and sparks that would probably not happen otherwise. Their chemistry is palpable and they really give their all. I was a bit nervous Jackman would have an edge on Craig but I was totally wrong. None is better than the other. They're truthfully equally great. They are the reason the show is such a success and rightfully so.

I loved the set design. I thought it was ingenious, really. So simple but so gorgeous. The sets looked so REAL it was eerie. The lighting design was boring but appropriate I suppose.

The direction is fine enough and keeps the show running at a smooth pace even if there's really not much for the two of them to DO in terms of blocking.

So basically, it's a mediocre play performed by two stellar actors. I'm stuck between **1/2 and *** but finally, I have to go with:

**1/2 out of ****

Guess its a good thing, those who had questioned DC´s ability to perform next to Hugh ( ) confirm he is equally good. I am really surprised, people rate Hugh that high in a drama, given that he has prooved so far he is a good entertainer rather than a brilliant actor. I am in awe, he is as good as he seemes to be. But in my book, it will be obvious - as its been stated some times already, that DC is indeed better.

I still don´t get it, how this play can be less than great, when it received all the praise in Chicago back then and from what I´ve read, they didn´t change that much. So - whatever the critics will have to critisize on the 30th, it looks as if it won´t be the actors, who get hit :D
Fingers crossed for great DC´s reviews.

I wonder how much of those comments come from the fact that going to see a play on Broadway is so much of a social event?

Going to see this in a playhouse in Chicago with two theatre troopers, the audience were probably theatre fans. Those going to Broadway probably expect to be wowed by either amazing sets and action or by the stars. They got the stars in this.......and their "unexpected bonus" has been that Daniel actually can act ( ).

But putting it together from what everyone has written, this play needs concentration and a mind willing to work at the story. Audiences are sometimes lazy (one of the reasons why imo that QoS was not the hit that CR was.....it required more in the way of involvement rather than just watching), and a lazy mind is not going to get as much out of this because Huff is asking for a massive investment of mind and emotion.

I have to say my opinion of DC goes down a tiny bit because he seems to be one of the few brits who doesn't like Shakspere , but I guess thats makes him different ...his own guy .

Maybe for $300. they expect more bang for their buck in these hard times .

Joseph Fiennes was on THE VIEW talking about why he has down less films lately and more plays in London .

Thats a bit of a misnomer, his preference is for new writings.

I also think, its only is usual way of putting himself down - he could do Shakespeare every day of the week - no question about it in my book.

I also think "... too many words" is something he would say. For instance, Copenhagen was full of dialogue and difficult scientific jargon. He also dislikes costume drama.
