Betrayal - Bye, Bye...

Post by Germangirl »

Lets give it a home here even when its a play.
caramel wrote:007's love triangle: Rafe Spall will play 'the other man' opposite real-life married couple Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig

Rachel Weisz has found the man she will commit adultery with, eight times a week, in front of Daniel Craig. (:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: at the wording )

Rafe Spall is in final negotiations to play the ‘other’ man in the high-profile production of Harold Pinter’s Betrayal — directed by the legendary Mike Nichols — which opens in New York in October.

Real-life married couple Rachel and Daniel will play fictional husband and wife Emma (an art gallery owner) and Robert (a publisher).

Emma cuckolds Robert by having a long-term affair with Jerry, a literary agent — the part Nichols and producer Scott Rudin hope Rafe will play.

That deal hasn’t been officially closed yet, but contracts for Rachel and Daniel have been finalised, as exclusively predicted here last month.

Daniel will begin preparing for pre-production of the next Bond film once his run in Betrayal ends.

Pinter’s 1978 play uses the structure of reverse chronology, which makes the layers of deception allthe more stinging, because it’s not just Robert who’s being betrayed.

Nichols, having directed The Graduate, Carnal Knowledge and Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?, has an astute understanding of marital frailties and the art of adultery.

His last work on Broadway was a landmark revival of Death Of A Salesman with Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Betrayal will rehearse in August and run at the Barrymore Theatre for roughly 14 weeks.

Rafe was last on stage in London in the Royal Court transfer of Constellations.

When preparing for a role he studies all the facets of a character — something he once told me he’d learned by observing his father, Timothy.

He has worked with Michael Grandage at the Donmar, and Josie Rourke when she ran the Bush.

He was in Ang Lee’s Oscar-winning The Life Of Pi and has appeared in a lot of TV, from Cracker to The Shadow Line.

Now, with Broadway beckoning, he’s taking another step towards major stardom.

The top notch acting in the Weisz/Craig/Spall 'Betrayal' is emotionally true, often v funny and its beautifully staged with filmic qualities..

Because she did with Rain? Or do you have another reason to believe that?

The theater looks pretty much like the Schoenfeld Theater with the stage door just at the left side of the main entrance. Even the interior looks very similar.

Ahhh, that brings back many good memories, I guess I should start with a big piggy bank right now!

Yes, it looks similar and the Schoenfield was a very nice intimate theater.

My son came home yesterday and I just met up with him. I never bring it up but there always comes the moment were he asks "And how is Daniel?" He likes him but was not overwhelmed with SF. Ayway - he didn't say No, when I asked if we couldn't go to NY together in fall. I got a Maybe  He also knows NY pretty well. I introduced him to the city many, many years ago and he revisited ever since several times. So, maybe I luck out and we go together

The Barrymore is awesome. Many of my favourite shows have played there. (Arcadia, Company) Great sized house. The 'graphers are happy because "at least one person will stage door". Their words, not mine. The Barrymore has many exits; how I wish Hugh was there to get Daniel to SD.

HM - he will avoid it if he can, but maybe they are changing around. One day Daniel, one day Rachel etc...

Thanks Elisa and keep us updated. You are our ear on Broadway.

I sure hope that a Tony nomination doesn't go to Rachel if Daniel doesn't get one too!

Both or none, even though, he most likely thinks differently. Lets grab 10% out of all our egos and give him some. He needs it
