Totally agree. I can get a bit possessive about OUR star doing what I want him to do, not what he obviously wants to do. :)

And I do agree too that he obviously chose it for a reason. Maybe same reason as his choosing the non flashy role in the rain play. He likes the more complicated and less obvous role. Loved Roger Ebert, and usually agreed with his take on a film, so maybe it will be something special. One thing for sure, it will be a big deal in the press. Rudin as producer and Nichols as director are the top of the heap, and having RW and DC in the same play, it sure won't allow for much privacy in their lives.

Just finished watching it. Interesting despite the stilted dialogue at places.

Jerry seems to be the lead role per this film. It was said in the beginning that it was a faithful adaptation of the play. I am assuming our Betrayal will be close to this.
Jeremy Irons was very good. He steals the whole thing imo. I like Patricia Hodges face. Very pretty.

Regards to screen time - I thought till the last 20min or so it seemed well balanced. Scenes were alternating between E/J, E/R, R/J.
So I didn't get the feeling that Robert wasn't there much. Maybe Jerry gets to say more in his scenes? :dunno:
Imbalance was there at the very end I thought.

I liked Robert's scenes in Venice and the lunch one with Jerry.

Well the way Ben played his role he seemed to be overshadowed by the other two. Maybe he was miscast?
But Daniel will be more visible imo. His presence just ensnares your attention for one thing.

Wish the play would get a dvd release.

Reading the latest JJ comments, its almost back to old times at points  ( warming up the split and why and how etc. OMG) but here are some, that I agree to.

YES, in Skyfall Daniel was fantastic! Someone may say that his ears stick out, that he was pouting a lot ( the sexiest pout in the world), that he looked like a thug, but OMG, HE WAS AWESOME! All those Holywood “poster boys” are not fit to polish his shoes. He’s so manly and his animal-like sex appeal sets me crazy everytime I see him. He’s a real MAN, rough, handsome, his body and eyes simply defy science, his face is so “masculine”, you think, omg, how good he must be in the bedroom…….. Rachel is soooo lucky. I think she’s the most gorgeous actress and I “hate” her at the same time…

I can’t get my head round why they’d chose to do this play. It seems a bit callous to me considering their history. Anyway she’s going to have to really go some to make the plot believable, it’s not like the husband is dog ruff. Maybe he will have to wear a fat suit & ugly prosthetics

Although Spall is 15 years younger than Daniel, he’s got NOTHING on him :) Daniel is far superior in terms of looks, masculinity and sex appeal. Well, a great scope for acting skills :)

Reg. SF
t’s true, not enough bedroom action! He’s a perfect package of erotic energy, he was born to serve women & as much as I adore his sexy tight suit fighting & every frame that he’s in, I want to see him flexing his soft porn skills in the next movie!!
The top notch acting in the Weisz/Craig/Spall 'Betrayal' is emotionally true, often v funny and its beautifully staged with filmic qualities..

I watched the film version of Betrayal last night (thanks SG). I found it well-acted and absorbing, but I thought the dialogue was too 'stagey'.

There was an article in the Guardian about Daniel and Rachel appearing on Broadway in Betrayal and I liked one of the comments, although it's a bit mean about HJ.

'In, A Steady Rain, Daniel Craig made a believer out of me. He managed to rise above both a mediocre play and his inept co-star. Craig's Bondian star wattage may burn brightly now, but be that as it may, the man's got the chops. He's the real deal. I think, Betrayal, is Pinter's best. Daniel and Rachel have chosen weiszly.'

That's the question, I was asking myself

This pair great idea for Betrayal. Interesting that Daniel Craig preferred Robert, Rafe S clearly a fine actor, but a much younger, almost boyish, Jerry is a terrible idea. The whole point is that these men have been friends/rivals since univversity days. Anyone understand this casting?

Not Pinter's best play by a long way, quite dull and boring in truth, and dated, but the mix of actors is an interesting one and will have people rushing to buy tickets.

I looked up the film and JI looks a lot younger then Ben, too.

But still - why this actor? There are surely equally talented ones out there, who fit the bill better.

Unfortunately these things never seem to get one. They could make a lot of money with the successful ones. I wonder, why...maybe there is a rule, its not allowed...:dunno:

This production should have a lot of heat and will be the hottest ticket on Broadway. I saw newlyweds Craig and Weisz at the New York Film Critics Circle last winter and heard they were looking for a project to do together. They didn’t want to spend so much time apart. They held hands throughout much of the evening and seemed very much in love.

Maybe it was difficult to find someone who is okay with it to play the second fiddle in regard to the attention (press, audience, fans etc.). I also bet he isn't too expensive. Never heard before the announcement of Rafe Spall.

I guess he's on his way up. He was in Anonymus, The life of Pi and Prometheus.

I remember him from Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead. I'm glad he doesn't resemble his father too much
