Friday Update #1: Sources report that Spectre pulled an estimated $5.25 million from Thursday night's first showings beginning at 7pm in 3,221 locations. That's a very strong start for Daniel Craig's fourth outing as 007, and the franchise's 24th overall. By comparison, Skyfall posted $2.2 million from 8pm IMAX shows and $2.4 million from midnight screenings three years ago, for a total of $4.60 million. Spectre's even earlier debut and in a climate where Thursday shows are increasingly more popular translates to an equally impressive opening. The question now becomes whether or not American audiences drive the film to a record debut like those in the United Kingdom and other countries did last week.

Friday Estimates: Spectre and Peanuts Overperforming

While it doesn’t look as though records will be set, Spectre and Peanuts are both giving the box office a much-needed jolt this weekend. With studio estimates for Friday in, Spectre is the clear winner for the weekend, with $28.1 million for the day, including $5.25 million at preview screenings on Thursday. That compares to Skyfall’s $32.7 million Friday with $2.2 million at previews, and suggests an opening weekend around $78 million for the latest entry in the timeless James Bond franchise.

That opening will be the second-best all-time for Bond, and suggests that the film will power to something comfortably over $200 million domestically. With a gangbusters start internationally, including the best opening ever in the United Kingdom, Spectre should rack up a huge amount globally. Whether it can top $1 billion remains to be seen, and will depend critically (as so much does in the industry these days) on its performance in China. We’ll have more news on that in the next few days.

I think, they should get their pfa's over to China and premiere it there. Its not, that they don't need every extra penny, they can get. Don't be lazy, folks.

Now this looks a lot better then I expected.
Very nice is the 20 something only drop in the UK. Record numbers and nr 1 everywhere.
We stand at 300 mll in under 2 weeks. But then, we do need a good base until Hunger Games arrive and certainly SW.

NOW, THIS IS GOOD!!!!! :D :D
I get a cinema 'timetable' emailed to me every week from Odeon. We have Steve Jobs (blah) and Mockingjay Part 2 (double blah) opening next week and Spectre is still in SCREEN ONE! 8) 8) ... In TWO cinemas! (My town has one big cinema and one smaller cinema on the same street but they are considered as one...)
With all the competition, I was worried that SP may not be in cinemas as long as SF (hence my rather 'frantic feasting')... so this surprises and PLEASES me!!

SPECTRE beats box-office in France ! Best opening ever with about 900 000 people on November 11th. It is played in about 900 cinemas over the country and a lot of the screenings were sold out.
It beats not only Skyfall but also the record of France's best opening movie ever !
November 11th is bank holiday here in France that's maybe the reason why the production don't wanted to open it on Wednesday 6th... clever !
