DC in Ed Zwick's DEFIANCE
Moderator: Germangirl
WOW! Thanks Addie....that was great....can't wait to see this one too.
Now, it may be that we will see Defiance and QoS right after each other Stateside and in Canada....not to mention Flashbacks that we have yet to see. If anything, he will get plenty of exposure in the Fall of 2008 and those who don't know him will definitely know him by the end of this year.

the E channel had a specal on the top 20 in bathing suits men or women and he wasn't mentioned . Matt Lauer got good props , I forget who else . Pierce and Leonardo were mentioned for not being s hot . DC still has'nt crossed over the pond . Most of his films in the US have been small parts . Layercake appealed to certain people at the time . I would see it now but I wouldn't then . Hopfully QOS and Defience will put him over the edge .
Paramount delays 'Soloist,' 'Defiance'
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- Hollywood's Paramount Pictures has delayed the theatrical release dates of two high-profile films -- "The Soloist" and "Defiance."
The Los Angeles Times said the release date of "The Soloist," starring Jamie Foxx as a homeless violin player and Robert Downey Jr. as a journalist who discovers and writes about him, has been pushed back from Thanksgiving week to March 13, eliminating it from the 2008 awards season competition.
The release date for the World War II movie "Defiance" starring Daniel Craig has also been changed from mid-December to a limited Dec. 31 release, followed by a wide expansion Jan. 16, the Times noted.
To qualify for consideration in the next Oscar race a movie must open by or on Dec. 31.
The Times said the studio declined to comment on the scheduling changes, but the newspaper quoted unnamed studio executives as saying the current economic climate and competitive fall-winter release field could be behind the switches.
Paramount said this week it will only release a maximum of 20 movies a year in the future.

Defiance will have its World Wide Premiere on November 9th at the AFI Festival in Los Angeles.

I'm thinking about going, but only to take photos outside this time if Daniel shows up. Looks like there are 2 screenings in 2 separate ltheatres. If I went to the screening, I won't be able to see the red carpet events (I don't think).

I think it might be lost in translation. Defiance opens with a 'limited' release for Oscar contention. Then has a 'wide' release, meaning it begins playing in many theatres across the US and probably other countries.Liverpool Rules wrote:Hi Mariaines, Where did you see the term "wide expansion"? The top notch acting in the Weisz/Craig/Spall 'Betrayal' is emotionally true, often v funny and its beautifully staged with filmic qualities..
Agent 007 Daniel Craig Taking ‘Solace’ Over Oscar Buzz Flick ‘Defiance’
Believe it or not, Daniel Craig is more than just James Bond and the guy that almost played Thor. He’s also a solid dramatic actor who has performed some impressive work in films like “Munich.”
And after “Quantum of Solace” returns him to 007’s tuxedo, Craig will get dramatic again with “Defiance,” an Oscar-bait flick which opens at the end of this year. “It’s a true story set in World War 2,” explained producer Marshall Herskovitz, whose Bedford Falls production company is making the film. “This is very different from James Bond.”
Co-starring Liev Shreiber and Jamie Bell, the flick is directed by the man behind Oscar-nominees “Blood Diamond” and “The Last Samurai.” “Ed Zwick just directed it in Lithuania this year,” Herskovitz explained. “It’s really quite an amazing film, and we’re very proud of it.”
“The film is basically about these 3 brothers, and Daniel Craig is one of them, who run into the woods when the Germans invade in 1941 and they end up saving a huge number of Jews, 1200 people they saved,” he said of the script, based on real events. “It’s an amazing true story; there is a moment in the film with these people who have just been through hell, living in the woods through the winter and all that. They capture a German soldier and what happens in that moment - and what you see on Daniel Craig’s face - is really quite extraordinary.”
According to Herskovitz, it’s an awards-worthy performance that will show us a side of Craig we’ve never seen before. “The thing about Daniel is that those of us in the business who have been watching his performances for years have been saying this guy is going to be a big star, he is one of those people like Steve McQueen, who combines this charisma, this incredible look, that’s not even about handsome or not handsome, it’s just an amazing, masculine, wonderful, attractive look,” he said of his star. “So when you find those things together in a person, watch out!”
