Some more new and old bits about Bond 22

In black what I think is new. DC says that there will be more gags in Bond 22.

IMO this is great! Eva and DC did a great job with those witty dialogues and oneliners!

With "Casino Royale" enjoying critical acclaim and a rapturous response from the fan base, many expected the 22nd James Bond adventure to pick up from where the record-breaking 2006 film left off. But writer Paul Haggis recently stated at the Los Angeles Film Festival that it is far from a straight-forward continuation, "I think it's going to stand on its own although it does follow right on the heels of Casino Royale" he said. The tone of the film was also expected by many to carry over, with Daniel Craig's interpretation of a tough and gritty Bond continuing as he wears in his newly acquired double-o status. But Craig has teased the media that his second outing as 007 will include a little more humor.

Lighten Up
According to a recent interview, Craig said "[the producers] just want more gags. The next one's going to be a lot funnier. Octopussy. Pussy Galore. They're all great names. But that's the thing; all the Bond jokes have been flipped on their heads. They've all gone beyond..."

He continued, "Bond is supposedly the most male moment [in film] but to me he’s never been macho. That Bond is something that Sean Connery created in Dr No. There’s no point in trying to compete with every Bond that came before. You manage to make it your own"

“I don’t know Sean but I wouldn’t want to meet him in a dark alley – he was a big strong guy and he had a big male presence about him.

“Everybody was in an uproar when he was going to be James Bond. He got flak because he was basically an Edinburgh bricklayer. And everyone who read the books thought how can he possibly do it? But he created a style that was unique and kind of sexy."

Writer & Director
Although writer Paul Haggis is still busy with "In the Valley of Elah", is already working on the Bond 22 script that regular scribes Neal Purvis and Robert Wade handed to producers in April. "It's going to take me six months to get the script into shape as it is. I think I'll do that and then I'll go off into the next project", said Haggis.

Director Marc Forster explained he has not really addressed Bond 22 yet. "I'm just literally mixing The Kite Runner in July and then sometime in August or September, I start [Bond]," he said. "To be honest, I haven't put any thought because really, my mind is in The Kite Runner and scoring and finishing that up. I haven't really spent any time with that stuff. I wish I could tell you. Maybe in a later period."

One of his first jobs will be to screentest the cast that will compliment Craig as 007. "Yes, I think finding Bond girls will always be an interesting task but again, not something I have dealt with at this point".

Forster also recently hinted that the production is considering shooting in the Swiss Alps, where he said on is never short of a great panorama. But he also stated that decisions are far from complete due to the heavy use of the locale in the 1969 film "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". Forster added the potential Swiss scenes may add nothing new.

Does It Look Like We Need The Money?
In an otherwise quiet month for Bond 22 news, the cottage industry of 007 rumours in the tabloid press cooked up a story about Daniel Craig only making one more 007 film from a fairly innocuous quote ("I don’t want to make just spy films. I’ve never made movies for money").

Although Eon Productions gave "no comment" to questions about Craig's length of contract, the 39 year-old actor confirmed during several interviews at the time of Casino Royale's release that he had signed up to make three films. "I've signed up for two more, and then I can get on with my life!" he said last year. An official announcement about Bond 22 also included this figure. Press has separately stated he is getting £8 million for the three films. According to Variety, executives recently renegotiated the company's deal with Craig to continue as 007, significantly upping his salary though declining to give him a share of back-end.

In other studio news, reports confirm that Sony has the right to distribute the Bond 22 theatrically, with MGM set to handle the film's release on cable and home entertainment. "On the next Bond film, Sony is a 50-50 financier with MGM," said one source familiar with the arrangement. "But, according to their deal, in five years, MGM can buy Sony's 50% back. That was true on'Casino Royale, too: They can buy Sony's half back in five years, and there's plenty of TV and DVD money in those movies".

This sounds pathetic, but I don't want it to be very funny. I like a darker, more real Bond...sprucing it up with humor is fine, but making it into a farce is too easy and far from unknown to Bond movies. I'm confident it will be fine, but still crossing my fingers to make sure that Daniel's not going to be the star of another Moonraker. Too many gags, and characters can go out the window.

But I'm usually skeptical, aren't I? It'll go well, most likely.

Yeah , if they make it like the Roger Moore ones I will be very unhappy . I did miss Q and having some gadgets . The heart machine was kind of lame and they used it on MI3 too . I liked it when Sean and Tim did the sarcastic humour or double entandre . After all these years you expect certain things from Bond films .

I'm sure it won't be anything like the Roger Moore ones. Daniel never said anything like that. What the press is making a big fuss about now is just a misquote from his Sam Taylor-Wood interview. The Daily Express took one sentence out of context and f***ed it up beyond all recognition, that's all.

Agree with you Anglo, why is it that the press have to make such a fuss. I can't imagine for a minute that Dan is going to do the Roger Moore raising of the eyebrow thing and throw in gag after gag. He has raised Bond's game now and he will play this character with class. If gags are required he will do them otherwise its down to business. We all know that he will start to evolve into the Bond we know in the next couple of movies but I think with that certain panache that only Daniel can bring. Bring on November 2008 and lets shut the media up. They will be all over him like a rash then.

I agree also. When I read that in the Interview interview, I assumed he was being sarcastic! It never once occurred to me that he was being serious. Puhleeze, Pussy Galore?? Octopussy?? I don't think so....

IMO they will go for dry humour in the line of :

Do I look how I give a damn?

... smart? not, single...

That last hand nearly killed me ...

The little finger stuff...

And the ping-pong dialogues with other actors, as with Vesper in CR

If they follow that line, I think the film will be potentially brilliant.

I hope they will follow the line of humour in CR, IMO that is perfect for Daniel's Bond.

One of my favourite funny moments in CR is the poker game with Dimitrios when James beats him and wins a lot of money and the Aston. While gathering his chips, Bond says "oh, and the valet ticket". The way Daniel delivers that line and the way it seems to rub salt into Dimitrios' wound makes me laugh every time I see it

If honestly I`m afraid that Bond 22 may fail. Casino Royale had hugest success. And now everybody believe in next film. But all these "innovations", which producers want to see can ruin everything.
And in fail of a film Daniel will accused. Though all the matters are in stupid script!

Well I hope its not the case, i dont believe Daniel would allow it to fail. I think it will follow Casino Royale more than he orignals as I think people want that more now.

Expectations are very high after CR huge success but I am sure they will manage Bond 22 properly.

The script writer is mainly the same, and the CR script was excellent IMO, and of course the leading actor is the same, and I am sure Daniel will play a fantastic Bond again. I do not know what to say about the director, and he is a key part of the film success. But with Daniel on board I am pretty confident the film will be excellent, sure he will be watching every detail (even toilet paper, as he mentioned in one interview

).
