JAMES Bond hunk Daniel Craig is having a secret romance with stunning Oscar-winning actress Rachel Weisz.

The Brit megastars, who play a married couple in a new film, are spending the festive season together on a hush-hush break in a cosy Dorset cottage.

Daniel, 42, held ravishing Rachel's hand as they strolled to a country pub where they snuggled together in front of the fire for a Christmas Eve drink.

A fellow customer said: "They were clinging to each other like honeymooners. The chemistry was obvious.
It came just a month after the British Hollywood stars QUASHED rumours they were a couple.

But the News of the World can exclusively reveal that they are very much an item.

Daniel and The Mummy star Rachel, 40, giggled and swapped loving looks as they stepped outside their holiday home hidden deep in the Dorset countryside.

And although they drove separately to the lovenest cottage, they couldn't be prised apart once they arrived.

An onlooker said: "They behaved like love-struck teens - playing the fool and messing around. They were inseparable."

Two years ago Daniel got engaged to his long-term girlfriend, the US producer Satsuki Mitchell, 40. Recent reports have suggested their relationship is over - although Daniel has never confirmed or denied them.

Meanwhile Rachel, who won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar and Golden Globe for her role in The Constant Gardener, announced last month she had split from her American director fiancé Darren Aronofsky after nine years together.

They have a son aged four, and there is no suggestion Daniel was the reason for their break-up.

But now, at the end of 2010, it seems Rachel is looking forward to a happy new year with the British beefcake.

The couple first met last spring on the set of their new film Dream House.

In the thriller, due in cinemas next year, they play a husband and wife who move to a lovely new home - only to find that several grisly murders have been committed there.

While filming in March, Rachel said about Daniel: "We've been getting on really well and yet I still haven't had an offer to be a Bond girl - but if he asks me I'd definitely do it!"

And it now seems he finally has...

And they have now had a Bonding weekend at a small village near Yeovil.

Daniel, who has an eight-year-old daughter with his actress ex-wife Fiona Loudon, arrived at their cottage in a sleek black £48,000 Range Rover Sport.

Rachel, meanwhile, turned up in a modest Fiat 500.

The luxury bolt-hole costs £1,000 per week and boasts a "super king bedroom", home cinema, sauna, Power Plate exercise machine and roof terrace.

On Christmas Eve afternoon, Daniel and Rachel - who is currently appearing in L'Oreal adverts - emerged together from the plush pad for a romantic walk through the snow-blanketed countryside.

Warmly wrapped in thick coats, scarves and wellies - and with their faces almost hidden under sunglasses and woolly hats - they held hands and occasionally clung on to each other as they gingerly manoeuvred their way down icy lanes.

An onlooker said: "It was a winter wonderland with frost on the hedges and snow underfoot. Daniel and Rachel looked like a romantic couple in a film.

"They were laughing and chatting and hanging on to each other's words and stopping to take photos of each other."


After two miles the couple arrived at another village and nipped into a deli to buy supplies. Then they went to a nearby Edwardian pub where they spent the rest of the afternoon nestled in a corner. When darkness started to fall they headed out, grabbing each other's hands for the walk home.

But having a gorgeous new woman on his arm isn't the only reason Daniel has been enjoying a fantastic end to 2010.

We can also reveal the Chester-born star has signed up for the next Bond film, despite fears he wouldn't be able to fit it into his hectic schedule.

Movie bosses had stalled on a production date, so Daniel agreed to play the lead role in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy and also took on Steven Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin.


Then Bond bigwigs at MGM decided on 2012 for their next release - as it is the 50th anniversary of the first film, Dr No. Daniel, who expected it to be 2014, has finally agreed to do it - and filming will start in the summer.

A source told us: "We're all thrilled to have Daniel confirmed - he's one of the most popular Bonds ever. It's a real coup."

And it should be a real thrill for women all over the world, who will be hoping for a repeat of Craig's famous tight-fitting swimming trunks scene in Casino Royale.

Rachel, the daughter of Hungarian refugees who fled to London from Nazi Germany, also has a massive year in store.

Two years ago he proposed to Satsuki with a Cartier ring, and also told how she helped keep him on his feet. "I couldn't get through it without her," he said. "You've got to have a sense of perspective and she gives me that.

Have to say that they do look suited to each other. Daniel looks happy to hold her hand in public while he didn't do that with Sats, very rarely. Wait and see if this will last for a while or not.
