Is that a poppy and does it stand for remembrance of the military like it does on Memorial Day in the states ? I suppose it would because they were honouring a military charity for the prmiere .

Yes. Also, Rememberance day is approaching

The poppy is used as a rememberance in the UK. It symbolizes the red poppy fields of Flanders from WW1, I think.
