Yes, cynical and reserved, remember CR was Bonds coming out as a double O. He had a lot to learn and you don't give your heart away to anyone. Make love to them for information "for queen and Country" only. play and toy with them in the Bond fashion but not giving away that heart. It clouds the mind.

I felt so heartbroken for him in QoS. He was so good in conveying that sad, loneliness in the flight that he takes after meeting with Mathis and he says he can't sleep anymore or something like that... oh the agony

On her Magesty secert Service George Lazenby got married Dianah Riggs and she was killed on their way to the honeymoon.
For some reason I thing Sean COnnery fe in love in Live and let die. She got killed too.
So our young Bond was sure to have a heart break.

Good Luna, very good. YEs that is who it was. So roger Moore and Pierce Bronson never fell in love or married.
Then Vesper came along and took Bonds heart and broke it.

I want to see some vulnerability there, I think that is one of DC's strengths and Babs surely knows it. Beneath the veneer and the cold blood that runs through his veins, I think there's a beating heart that might come close to love again, just not yet.

i think people here are forgetting that Casino Royale was the first James Bond novel published by Ian Fleming; making Vesper the first love interest. she came before all the others. Bond may have loved Vesper at one time however his heart actually belongs to Tracy, the woman he married in OHMS. so if Casino Royale was an effort to go back to the beginning of Bond then sooner than later another woman will come along who will take Vesper's place. it could be in this film.

I watched QoS again last night, DC really is very good in it (I was looking for that pain and vulnerability that caramel commented on and he delivers that and more, but the camera rarely slowed down enough to let him do his work). This time I also came away thinking, other than slow it down, lets have more of character's like Fields, a meatier baddy than Dominic Greene, a plot that makes you think. I hope Javier can deliver what Mathieu A could not.

QoS could have been so much more, the opening sequences were stunning but totally lost at fast forward speed or on the cutting room floor.

Nothing new I know but I felt it was time for a revisit to baseline what's next.

I don't want to point names or name fingers but Marc Forster was holding the reins here. I know Daniel would probably leap to his defence but he was definitely the wrong man to direct a Bond film. He took it too literally and was 'too precise' when a Bond director needs to be a little more open and freewheeling.... My 2 cents...

Yes, that is correct, CR was the first, Tracy was played by Dianh Riggs, if you did not read the books one would of not known about Vesper. Bond moved forward and now we went back to the beginning. Now we go forward. So strange, if one never followed the history they would not have the confusion we do.
