Just watched the Russian interview. The woman looks a bit like Nicole Kidman, very glamorous. I didn't understand much, but boy was she flirting with him. I was half expecting her to take her top off and kneel down to offer him a blow job...

I always remember the scene in Archangel where he walks into the Russian nightclub and all the girls turn and stare in lust and hope when he walks in... I bet he gets that a lot!!!

Its the moment, when he has a look of total horror and answers, that no, but he stopped smoking. That was a hilarious moment.

And she asked, if that was his real eye color and he said, Yes, they are all mine .

And that it will be difficult for his daughter to find a man with a father like him and he said, No, she is fine.

So she was very blatant...

How great is Daniel in this scene. It's really a knockout moment in the film and a very surprising and shocking moment in any film let alone Bond film. Very brave of the producers to leave it in, Campbell's really clever to really bring out the pain in the scene. It really hurts to watch.

Though is it me or is there a recyled shot when Bond first turns and sees Vesper get taken away and we see his profile in close-up.
Is that the same shot near the end after Bond says "the big picture" to LeChiffre?

It's like BB said in an interview once.... imagine a man being tied naked to a chair and yet HE has all the power and control rather than his captor. It's an idea which has stayed in my head ever since I first saw this scene. Daniel just owns it. I have a friend who loves CR but cannot abide this scene because of the violent nature... I would be the same but I literally can never skip it. Not just because I get to see naked Danny but mainly because his acting his top notch - visceral and vulnerable at the same time.

I don't know whether its Bond who has all the control in the scene actually. In fact he's in a rather hopeless situation. I think what makes the scene work is that Bond comes to accept that he's going to die, and with that acceptance is now planning on taking Le Chiffre down with him.

It's an important scene I think, because fundamentally it's all a front; really Bond is very scared not just for himself but also for Vesper. It's the moment I think when it really dawns on Bond how in over his head he truly is. It shapes him and makes him aware of the 'bigger picture' and how he is simply a small cog in a bigger machine and makes him realise that he possibly doesn't want to be a spy anymore. It's all fair and well when he's battling Le Chiffre on the card table but when away from the table the realities of the spy game hit him hard. So hard I think he even doubts he can cope.
