Producers announce another non-007 project with Sony Pictures, no Bond 23 until 2011?

Bond 23 - 14-04-09

For fans who still had hope of the 23rd James Bond film releasing in 2010, the writing may be on the wall today. 007 producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Brocolli will be heading up a second non-007 project with Sony Pictures in the interim. Daniel Craig's third outing as the superspy looks set for 2011, as MI6 projected last year.

CULVER CITY, Calif., April 14 -- Building on their successful collaboration on the two most recent and highest grossing James Bond adventures in the history of the franchise, Sony Pictures Entertainment has acquired the motion picture rights to REMOTE CONTROL, a thriller novel by Mark Burnell, to be produced as a feature film by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli's Eon Productions, it was announced today by Doug Belgrad and Matt Tolmach, presidents of Columbia Pictures. Ileen Maisel will join Wilson and Broccoli in producing the project. Burnell will adapt his novel into the screenplay.

In REMOTE CONTROL, a former war correspondent, now British corporate intelligence analyst, gets caught up in a conspiracy by Western corporations to destabilize the Chinese economy. Following the trail to the United States, he discovers that his former lover is also being pursued. On the run together, they try to unravel the mystery of the conspiracy while trying to stay alive.

Remote Control is the second non-Bond property Sony Pictures is developing with Wilson and Broccoli. The studio is also collaborating with the renowned producers on a new adaptation of CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG with EON Productions and MGM.

Commenting on the announcement, Belgrad explains, "Our collaboration with Michael and Barbara on CASINO ROYALE and QUANTUM OF SOLACE was extraordinary and special and we all wanted to find another way to work together. Mark Burnell's new novel is an exciting thriller and it's precisely the kind of material that Michael and Barbara will be able to adapt so well."

Wilson and Broccoli added, "We have great respect and a wonderful working relationship with the entire team at Sony Pictures, from Amy, Doug, and Matt's team in production to Jeff Blake's global marketing and distribution groups and look forward to working with them all again."

Remote Control will be overseen at Columbia Pictures by Belgrad and Elizabeth Cantillon.

Sounds like a good plot for Bond and Vesper had she not betrayed him and died.

Guess its their way of taking their mind off Bond and still do something. But - that again ensures the 2011, which is way too long for my taste to wait for the next one. Ah well - fan life isn´t easy at times.
The top notch acting in the Weisz/Craig/Spall 'Betrayal' is emotionally true, often v funny and its beautifully staged with filmic qualities..

I just hope this isn't a sign that all is not well in the Bond camp. Haven't the extended gaps between past Bond films usually been associated with a change of Bond? Of course, they'd be mad to let him go, but there is always the possibility that he wants out.

Yikes, I'm shocked to see these words coming from my fingers.

I thought I read somewhere that he was under contract for at least 2 more Bonds? And if they were going to let him go I have a feeling they'd NOT do what the did to Pierce Broson. DC has brought in so much $$$ for the franchise/created a new ideas for the character I highly doubt the producers would want to let him go now. But that's just my thoughts :D

No worries, BB. Michael Wilson has said a long time ago, that he wanted a rest from Bond. Of course, we hoped, it wouldn´t be so but somehow its understandable. They have lived and breathed Bond for now 4 years straight - enough to have enough for a while IMO - because otherwise they would have to be at it right now again starting at the end of the year/beginning of next year. In the recent interviews there was no indication, that there won´t be a Craig Bond as planned. They always have said, that he will return. I believe that and see no reason or sign why not. He also was so excited to do another one in many interviews he did... :D

I am trying to imagine, what it would be like to be involved in Bond again at this moment and it feels - well, not good. And the way Barbara and Michael, but also Daniel are involved in that huge machinery must be exhausting despite all the fun they might have doing it. As much as I hate waiting so long, it makes sense for all of them...

Just found this (while searching for more articles)

Director Marc Forster says no to Bond 23, Craig commits
Its from 07-04-08
So its long planned and agreed on.

"Quantum of Solace" director Marc Forster has confirmed he will not be back for the follow-up adventure "Bond 23".

"If I would ever do a big movie again in that size," he said, "it has to be my own franchise, which I would create from scratch, which I would cast, create the look and really create the franchise on my own."

How about 007 himself? "I want them to stand alone and be good films," Daniel Craig said. "As long as that continues, then we'll keep making them. And if it doesn't, then we'll stop."

Producer Michael G. Wilson has indicated there will be a breather before the 23rd James Bond film starts pre-production, meaning it may be more than two years before Craig is seen as 007 for a third time.

It's a little bit sad that Marc won't do another Bond-Film but also understandable for me.Maybe he will do it again in a few years but know distance and space to develope is more important.

Dai Another Day

DAME SHIRLEY BASSEY and TOM JONES have given James Bond soundtracks a proud Welsh history.

And the tradition of big voices from the valleys belting out 007 themes has a bright future now DUFFY has caught the attention of EON film bosses.

The Warwick Avenue warbler was in Bond bigwig MICHAEL G WILSON’s sights at the Ivor Novello Awards at the plush Grosvenor House hotel in London last night.

Producer Michael told me: “I would love to get Duffy to sing the next tune. I think she is wonderful. AMY WINEHOUSE would be good too.

“We have started work on the new film, which I can’t say anything about. DANIEL CRAIG is very keen to get going.”

Wino blew her chances of singing the theme for Quantum Of Solace last year when MARK RONSON threw in the towel on recording sessions because Amy “wasn’t ready”.

Duffy bagged the PRS Most Performed Work gong for No1 Mercy at last night’s top songwriting awards.

The blonde has already scooped three Brits and a Grammy this year.

Her mantelpiece will need an extension after this stunning run.

Duffy’s film career has also taken off — she is starring in a movie about Wales.

But she didn’t do a great job of selling the script to BADLY DRAWN BOY star DAMON GOUGH during a sneaky fag break last night.

She said: “I’m making a movie. It’ll probably be rubbish.”

He won’t be left shaken or stirred with that review, Duffy.
