Dunda darling....never been in one but I think it's when there's a swarm of fans in the front of a stage at a rock concert, squashed like sardines, dancing and waving hysterically....the star FALLS into the crowd and gets moved by the waving hands.....falling into the mosh pit.

A "mosh pit" is usually at a heavy metal concert down in front of the stage with people pushing and slamming and carrying on as the band(s) plays.
