I don't think it was padding because he had is stomach in the Paris pics. It could just be his posture, or maybe he's wearing that slimline underwear. I'm serious. He can't afford to be trim in 95% of the movie and have a gut in 5%. That underwear would ride up to his ribcage or above and suck him in. It is possible!

He is the most handsome man on the planet and the coolest too.
