Real life Commander???

Post by muireann »

Hi everyone.
Found this on the MI6 site.

James Bond star Daniel Craig could be set to become an honorary Green Beret - reports the Sunday Express.

He is being lined up for the honour by the British Royal Marines – who first escorted him along the Thames when he announced his appointment as 007.

All they have to do is book the busy star in to complete a test of endurance. If he passes, he will earn his place among one of the world’s most elite military units.

Which surely beats movie after movie of having to save the world single-handedly?

A source at the Royal Marines training centre in Lympstone, near Exmouth, Devon, revealed:

“We were the ones who took Daniel to the press conference when he was revealed as the new James Bond.

“He was great – a really good guy – and he was very appreciative of our work.

“He supports the RNLI and is very interested in the Royal Marine Commandos too.

“We’re trying to get him down here to do one of the Commando tests so he can get his honorary Green Beret. It’s just about trying to find the time. He’s so busy.”

When Daniel, 40, does find a window, he will become the first Bond to be a real-life Royal Marine.

His screen persona’s full name is Commander James Bond, who joined MI6 after a distinguished career in the Royal Navy.

The star could hardly be in a better position to undertake the test.

He has spent the past few months doing stunts for his second Bond film, Quantum of Solace, including work acrobatics, fighting and stunt driving.

Bond producer Michael G Wilson said: “Daniel is amazing in the action work and this film he has more than doubled it.”

Daniel said: “I’m just doing very, very hard, strenuous rehearsal. I’m loving it.”

Daniel Craig set to become an honorary Green Beret

English actor Daniel Craig is being lined up for an honorary Green Beret by the British Royal Marines.

The British Royal Marines were the ones who had first escorted him along the Thames when he announced his appointment as 007.

To receive the honour, all Craig has to do is complete a test of endurance. Once he passes, he will earn his place among one of the world's most elite military units.

As revealed by a source at the Royal Marines training centre in Lympstone, near Exmouth, Devon, Craig was very enthusiastic about the work of the Marines.

"We were the ones who took Daniel to the press conference when he was revealed as the new James Bond," the Daily Express quoted the source as saying.
"He was great - a really good guy - and he was very appreciative of our work.

"He supports the RNLI and is very interested in the Royal Marine Commandos too.

"We're trying to get him down here to do one of the Commando tests so he can get his honorary Green Beret. It's just about trying to find the time. He's so busy," the source added.

If the 40-year-old actor succeeds with the endurance test, he will be the first James Bond to be a real-life Royal Marine.

As it is, his character's full name is Commander James Bond, who had joined MI6 after a distinguished career in the Royal Navy.

The endurance test would not be such a difficult feat for Craig, who has been spending the past few months doing stunts for his second Bond film, Quantum of Solace, including work acrobatics, fighting and stunt driving.
If he earns an honorary Green Beret, he will be following in the daring footsteps of, Sir Jimmy Savile, 88.

He sure would - IF he would be going for it, something I cannot imagine very well, really. Unfortunately he isn´t into honours of that kind - so my guess it, he will pass on it.
The top notch acting in the Weisz/Craig/Spall 'Betrayal' is emotionally true, often v funny and its beautifully staged with filmic qualities..

I think this isn't like the Royal stuff so he might do it for the guys in the Marines . I'd like to give him my own endurance test ...

As someone on a Bond site said, the Royal Marines would probably prep him for the tests so that he wouldn't fail, but I too don't think he would go for this kind of publicity.

However if it were for charitable purposes, like the appearance with the volunteer sea rescue organization near where he grew up ...

Aw my dad who was 90 this year was a Royal Marine
so I have little connection perhaps it could be arranged for all the oldest Marines to meet Daniel and i would obviously have to escort my dad as he is so frail. Well I can dream.

Already imagining... 8)

Seriously though, if it was something like the RNLI thing, that'd be cool.
Dreaming as always...

Do you want the truth...or something beautiful?
