The moving and highly satisfying ending nicely tees up the ball for the next round.

Craig is perfectly at ease in the role third time around, an outstanding charmer and a ruthless killer. Though he can't quite dispatch a quip with the panache of Connery, he brings a depth and emotional weight to the character that keeps you firmly invested in him. Whereas the likes of Connery, Moore and Brosnan played 007 as a man in stasis, Craig's version is constantly being shaped and moulded. That is what makes his Bond interesting and relatable.

I was lucky enough to attend the press screening on Friday 12th October and i can honestly say Bond is back - the "dream team" have done the series proud, the film is an absolute stunner.

…I’m back, and oh my goodness so is Bond, this is by far the best Bond film, 23 film is and this is what they have all been leading to.

Daniel Craig keeps the grit of Casino but also brings a humour that’s clever and never cheesy. Javier Bardem is just perfect as the bad guy Raoul Silva and his first meeting with Bond is pure genius. Bardem is no stranger to playing evil, he took the Oscar for his performance as the psychopathic killer in No Country For Old Men although his performance in Skyfall is slightly lighter and multilayered (if I say anymore you may kill me).

It’s the best Bond so far, taking all the ingredients that make a 007 film and never pushing anyone too far. Concentrating on story over action, although there are still plenty of incredible action sequences, your left with fun, engaging, action, drama with great characters and great dialogue.

As mentioned previously, my lucky neighbour Ben Eshmade got to see the Bond movie two weeks before we can (snarl). This is the short but sweet review he typed out for us on his return...

The first public preview was in the glamorous setting of the Odeon in Leicester Square (where they host the annual Bafta awards). Security was intense with your phone confiscated (like naughty school children) on arrival. Like most people I was frisked within an inch of my life, they even examined my scarf for recording devices!

So I sat down with 1599 of my closest friends to see this first public preview screening of Skyfall. We were asked very nicely not to reveal major plot lines or the ending. But I think it would be ok to tell you the film features a scorpion, a jellyfish, a tube train and a Turner.

It was a very very enjoyable 2 hours 20 minutes of high octane Bond-ness. The biggest shock to me was the change of tone from the previous reboots. And the lovely tributes to the past adventures were executed with a smile and a wink.

Sam Mendes had brought us a very personal Bond story and yet another chapter in this complicated and very English spy story.....

and another great one from variety

Putting the "intelligence" in MI6, "Skyfall" reps a smart, savvy and incredibly satisfying addition to the 007 oeuvre, one that places Judi Dench's M at the center of the action. It's taken 23 films and 50 years to get Bond's backstory, but the wait was worth it. In Sam Mendes' hands, the franchise comes full circle, revealing the three-film Daniel Craig cycle to be both prelude and coda to the entire series via a foxy chess move that puts these pics on par with Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy as best-case exemplars of what cinematic brands can achieve, resulting in a recipe for nothing short of world domination.

Empire gives it 4 stars (I wonder, why not 5)
http://www.empireonline.com/reviews/rev ... FID=137076

Verdict
Skyfall is pretty much all you could want from a 21st Century Bond: cool but not camp, respectful of tradition but up to the moment, serious in its thrills and relatively complex in its characters but with the sense of fun that hasn’t always been evident lately. One thing’s certain: James Bond will return…

So, WHO gets to go to these previews then????? Me? Jealous?? I will especially be jealous if it isn't just press or media people and it is randomly selected members of the general public.... but that's just the kind of mood I am in today... ME WANTEE!!!!!

Great to see the movie getting so much positive feedback :D ... but NO spoilers please!!!!!!!

Only TWO WEEKS to go. I think the next 14 days are going to be very nerve wracking ones. I hope the forum will be able to cope with the tumultuous torrent of gushing praise that will no doubt follow The Big Day.... :cheer:

This is all sounding very very promising! 8)

It does look like Mendes very cleverly escaped from the trap - - thus letting him direct Bond, rather than Bond's legacy directing him.

"The film makes more of his patriotism and his resilience than any other Bond movie, and his relationship with M becomes all the more touching as we realise that she’s become the mother he virtually never had." Ah!!!
