5 DANIEL CRAIG - ACTOR

As snugly as Craig fitted into that tuxedo – and his 007 is a definite 21st-Century vision – it’s quite impossible to see the 40 year old simply as ‘Bond’. For so long a solid support player, Craig suddenly looks the real deal: animal charisma, muscular acting force, frosty vulnerability, sly wit and probably the only man the wrong side of 40 who can look cool in a pair of too-small blue swimming trunks. And Craig has two other aces: chameleon versatility and sheer workrate. In the 12 months since Casino Royale, he’s played a gay death-row killer (Infamous), a sci-fi scientist (The Invasion – sssh...) and a warlord professor (The Golden Compass). DC’s always been impossible to pigeon-hole. Now, he’s impossible to ignore.

What’s next? Bond 22 is just one of four movies Craig has slated for 2008. Ed Zwick’s WWII drama Defiance will keep his star power blazing, but brace for his turn as the devil made flesh in I, Lucifer. Typecasting? Pah.

Too bad there have been recent remakes of Jane Eyre . My favorite is the 83 version with Timothy Dalton . He put the H in Hot and sexy in that one . I just got my own copy . I think it is one of the best things Dalton has done .

Just a reference on Vogue.com which refers to DC's taste in tailoring (wonder if he likes the fragrance too?):

THE FORD SHOWROOM

HAVING won over the American market with his own-name brand of contemporary luxury, Tom Ford has arrived in London; those with a penchant for his accessories line, fragrance and made-to-measure suits (here's looking at you, Daniel Craig), will be able to buy them exclusively at Harrods from today. Initially offered as part of the Ground Floor Men's Tailoring department, the retailer is planning to create a dedicated 1,175 square foot Tom Ford shop within the Knightsbridge store by the end of spring. "We have partnered with the finest companies internationally and are excited to be launching the collection exclusively in the UK with Harrods," says Domenico LeSole, Ford's long-term business partner and chairman of Tom Ford International. "With a clearly defined distribution plan in place and a discerning eye on quality, service and design, we are poised to establish the first true luxury brand of the 21st century." DANIEL'S BIG BLOWOUT

Craig's planning a big 40th

Daniel Craig is planning a huge party to mark turning 40 next month.

The actor will be halfway through filming the new James Bond film The Quantum Of Solace when he reaches the landmark birthday on 2 March.

'I was a pain in the arse at 30. I didn't know what I wanted to do. I couldn't commit. Not much has changed,' he says.

'My 40th is in the middle of Bond, but I'll celebrate it as best I can because I've got a feeling that 49 is going to come around really quickly.'

Despite getting older, Daniel has ruled out ever going under the surgeon's knife.

'If it starts to drop, it starts to drop. No one likes to get old and sag, but surgery isn't right'.

New James Bond star is Bertram Phinias Dettweiler

WUNDURFULWURLD.COM-- Daniel Craig, the ruggedly handsome actor known on the silver screen as James Bond, has flabbergasted his agent by announcing today that he is filing the necessary paperwork to legally change his name to Bertram Phinias Dettweiler.

"From now on, my name is Dettweiler, Bertram Phinias Dettweiler," he emoted suavely at a press conference with the global media that was simulcast over the Internet.

Dettweiler insisted that his unwieldy new moniker has nothing to do with the new James Bond movie now in production. It bears the awkward and much-derided title "Quantum of Solace".

In a survey conducted in 67 countries worldwide, only 4 people knew what 'Quantum of Solace' means.

Three of them are Latin scholars over 80 years old who also studied advanced physics. The other was Ian Fleming, author of the James Bond novels, but he's dead.

For the curious, the phrase 'Quantum of Solace' is an Australian pun.

Down Under, 'Quantum' is slang for a single QANTAS airplane, as in "I'm jettin' to Singapore on me Quantum, mate." The line is typically delivered with a mocking sneer and a braying laugh of pure braggadocio.

'Solace' is simply a common misspelling of 'solers'. Shoe repairmen who specialize exclusively in refurbishing the soles of men's footwear, entirely eschewing the uppers, are known as 'solers' in the Australian Outback, where a good thick sole is a matter of life and death if you accidentally step on a rattlesnake.

So the new Bond flick is evidently about a planeload of truly obnoxious Australian shoe repairmen on their way to Singapore to have a bloody good time.

Now you know.

The trademark Bond song during the opening credits, sung by the Australian Wallabies rugby squad and leaked to the media yesterday, confirms the plot line.

To this reporter's ears, the hearty lyrics to the new Bond song sounded something like:

"We's off ta see duh wizard

flyin' trew diss blizzard.

Will we evva git cakes?

Jettin' trew duh snowflakes?

It's a Quantum of Solace, mate!

Doan step on dat rattler, pal!

It's a Quantum of Solace!

Hooooo-ha! Hoo-ha!"

Ain't it a Wundurful Wurld?
