I think it is for coord. with crew too. They can't possibly have him wearing that kind of earpiece in the film or they would be totally trashed and laughed at for using such old technology for a modern day Bond. It cannot possibly be an earpiece in the film, unless there is a clearly explained reason for using such old technology.
Anything can be removed in post-production, but it just adds to the cost. Every single frame has to be modified. That's a lot of photoshoppy stuff. Yeah, you're right; it has to be for communication with the director from wherever he is. One of us just needs to work on the set, that's all .

There were discussions on thee Bond boards and they couldn't figure it out either.
It still don't think, its needed for crew communication.I mean, he is not doing anything very complicated. He is running along a street and into a building.
He is wearing it, when he is obviously on a break but also, when they are obviously filming. We have the little clips, where they shout "Action" So, this really is
The top notch acting in the Weisz/Craig/Spall 'Betrayal' is emotionally true, often v funny and its beautifully staged with filmic qualities..
Maybe you could get a part as Bond's new canine assistant 
. You would go on tour and could possibly be nominated for an Oscar!
