Bond becomes first major `Hollywood` film to open in India before US
Quantum Of Solace - 01-10-08
James Bond is making an unprecedented side trip before his next adventure reaches the U.S. - reports Reuters.
Sony Pictures Releasing India said Tuesday that "Quantum of Solace" will open in India on November 7, marking the first time a major Hollywood title has opened here before its U.S. premiere. The film will debut in U.K. theaters on October 31 and be released in North America on November 14.
"James Bond has a huge equity in this country, and Bond films have always been a hit here," said Mumbai-based Kercy Daruwalla, managing director of Sony Pictures Releasing India.
"Solace" will be released on about 700 prints dubbed into the regional languages Hindi, Tamil and Telegu, "which could make this the biggest Hollywood release of the year here," Daruwalla said.
Directed by Marc Forster, "Solace" picks up where things left off in the previous Bond film, 2006's "Casino Royale." Daniel Craig returns for his second outing as the dapper British Agent 007.

Virgin Atlantic unveils `Quantum of Solace` marketing campaign
Quantum Of Solace - 01-10-08
Virgin Atlantic, one of the world’s leading long-haul airlines, has unveiled its campaign to promote its partnership with Quantum of Solace, the James Bond adventure in cinemas in the UK from 31st October.
In the film, James Bond, played by Daniel Craig, flies Upper Class across the Atlantic. It’s the second time that Virgin Atlantic has appeared in a Bond movie, after its successful partnership with Casino Royale, which became the most successful in the James Bond franchise.
Virgin Atlantic will be promoting its partnership via Upper Class and Economy service advertising in print, poster sites (outdoor), online and through incentives with the travel trade. The airline will also be showing behind-the-scenes footage on its in-flight entertainment system onboard each flight.
The economy advertising promotes Virgin Atlantic’s latest fares with the theme “You Only Live Once,” highlighting the fact that, if we’re going to fly abroad, there’s only one airline to choose. The Upper Class advertising focuses on the airline’s “Fastly Superior” check-in and security channel for business passengers at Heathrow Terminal 3’s new Upper Class Wing.
Paul Dickinson, Sales and Marketing Director for Virgin Atlantic, said:
“As you only live once, Virgin Atlantic is the airline to fly with. Being James Bond’s favourite airline means we have to live up to his desire to travel in style. Our new campaign will highlight our great range of fares and superior product offering compared to other airlines. We’re delighted to be part of Quantum of Solace.”

7 amazing actors who should never be Bond
They're good, but not good enough for Bond...
7. Who: George Clooney
Why he might think he could do it:
He’s smooth, he’s charming, he looks good in a tux, he’s got more edge than Jaws’ dentures – and if you CGI some explosions and sharks into Ocean’s 11, you’ve got a Bond flick.
Why he would be wrong:
Sorry George, you’re a brilliant actor, but you ruined the American Bond (Batman) so badly the franchise had to pretend it had never met you in order to survive. We’ve already realistically rebooted once, we don’t need to do it again.
6. Who: Brad Pitt
Why he might think he could do it:
Brad’s played spies before – remember Spy Game? No? Mr & Mrs Smith? There you go. He’s also proven he can ‘master’ the British accent in The Devil’s Own /and/ his ex-girlfriends are hotter than 007s’.
Why he would be wrong:
Sorry Brad, but the day we see a blonde Bond working is the day we hang up our Walther PPks. Hang on a minute...
5. Who: Tom Cruise
Why he might think he could do it:
Let’s face it, Mission Impossible’s Ethan Hunt is Bond by another name and Cruise has shown he can handle cars (Days Of Thunder), gadgets (Minority Report) and taming pussy (Magnolia).
Why he would be wrong:
Bond’s catchphrase is ‘shaken, not stirred.’ It is /not/ ‘you complete me.’
4. Who: Matt Damon
Why he might think he could do it:
You mean aside from the fact that Casino Royale homaged Damon’s spy series The Bourne Identity, a franchise spawned from a series of Bond-influenced books? Hell, he wouldn’t even have to change the initials on his handkerchiefs!
Why he would be wrong:
Sorry Matt, but you were in The Good Shepherd, which is officially the slowest spy film of all time. Our boy doesn’t sit around staring at desks, he shoots them, with his gun.
3. Who: Johnny Depp
Why he might think he could do it:
Depp loves playing Brits at the moment, and if he could combine Jack Sparrow’s charisma with Sweeney Todd’s menace, he could be onto something.
Why he would be wrong:
Pirates aside, the last franchise Depp dipped his toe into was A Nightmare On Elm Street. In Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare, Johnny insisted on being credited as Oprah Noodlemantra. We do not want to read the headline ‘Oprah Noodlemantra is James Bond’ any time soon.
2. Who: Sylvester Stallone
Why he might think he could do it:
Stallone’s proved himself to be king of the franchise reboot recently, with successful Rocky and Rambo relaunches under his belt. And we’re sure that if he tried hard enough, he could master the British accent. Maybe. He can do serious (Copland), humorous (The Specialist) and action-packed (Oscar); everything a brilliant Bond needs!
Why he would be wrong:
The last time Sly took on a British pop culture icon, he ruined Judge Dredd. Also, no.
1. Who: Daniel Day Lewis
Why he might think he could do it:
Daniel Day Lewis is the greatest actor of his generation; he can do whatever the hell he likes.
Why he would be wrong:
Day Lewis is incredible, don’t get us wrong, but we’re not sure the Bond franchise is ready for line delivery like: My NAME is BOND Jaaaaaaaaaames (long pause) BOND. Also, during filming, Day Lewis stays in character, which would mean he’d have to do a lot of explaining to his wife / the police on his weekends off.
