I am so in love with his pre-Holywood work: The Mother, Love is the Devil, Some Voices, Love and Rage, Layer Cake, Enduring Love, Our Friends in the North. I really think these European movies allow him to express much better as an actor, there are more nuances to the characters, to the story.
I absolutely love his "big" movies so to speak (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Munich, Road to Perdition, Flashback of a Fool, Infamous - especially this one), not to mention the Bonds.

The thing for me I suppose, is that I have a sinking feeling that now he's an A-lister, he won't take as many artistic risks I think it's more of where he is in his career. Would he repeat the role of Ray in Some Voices? Darren? All others, exactly as they were portrayed? I think not. With actors, there's the pre-star and after-Sarah roles. Whether Indie or Hollywood, I don't think we'll see the brave pre-star roles anymore. I really hope I'm wrong. And yes, I definitely want to see him nude, but that will never happen now. To be precise The Mother, Layer Cake, Enduring Love were NOT pre-Hollywood films, because they were made AFTER Lara Croft.
And the same refers to WHERE they were made. European v. Hollywood - it doesn't really matter to me either. Infamous as an American movie, but Daniel's performance was Oscar-worthy and his character was very strong in terms of intensity and nuances. Munich and Road to Perdition were Hollywood productions and they were masterpieces.
I wouldn't say that indie movies provide more scope for "artistry", sometimes they do, but the best artists and specialists work in Hollywood and it's Holywood which has produced most of the world's cinematic mastepieces.
Having said all that, I'm really happy that Daniel is going to make a new movie, I'm all excited about it and hope it's good.

And I LOVED his performance in Infamous, it was definitely Oscar worthy. But those pre-star parts are my favourites.
As I said, I don't like any classifications. To me he was brilliant in Infamous, The Mother, Sylvia, Hotel Splendide or Love is the Devil as well as in Bonds, Defiance or Dragon Tattoo. I think he would LOVE to take some artistic risk and do something totally different, providing he was given a good script.
