strikes might affect Bond 22?

Post by cornell01 »

I hope this is correct place to ask these questions. I've registered at the Commander Bond site because this kind of thing seems to be discussed there, but I cannot seem to post (error messages). Is this a relevant and interesting topic?

There are concerns in Hollywood about possible strikes against studios and TV networks by three artist guilds, the screenwriter’s guild (WGA), Screen Actor’s Guild (SAG) and Director’s Guild (DGA). See this discussion in Variety: http://www.variety.com/article/VR111795 ... tockpiling

The WGA contract expires 10/31/07; SAG and DGA contracts expire 6/30/08. Does any of this affect the making of Bond 22? Do any of the guilds have contracts with EON? Is Marc Forster a member of the DGA? Is DC a member of SAG?

Its from december 06 and we haven`t heard of any problems yet, so I take it, there are hopefully none. Also, the producers have known of it in advance, so they can make their decisions under consideration of possible impacts.

Yes I think DC is in the SAG, because everybody has to be, in order to have an agent over there.

PS: I will post it for you at commanderbond. They might have much better ideas about it than I have,
The top notch acting in the Weisz/Craig/Spall 'Betrayal' is emotionally true, often v funny and its beautifully staged with filmic qualities..

Hmm, is Bond not a British franchise? How do you determine the country of origin?! Does it depend on the origin of the funding? The chosen studio will be in London, the makers from all over Europe and North America and they'll probably gallivant the world shooting in exotic locations. Gets complicated?

Germanlady - Thanks for posting over there.
It is curious that publications in the business, like Variety, aren't reporting more on the topic, especially since there was a lot of concern in 1999-2000 when some contracts expired. I think it was 1988 when TV shows were affected by a WGA strike. Maybe TV series are more affected because there is such a short time between script-writing and filming.

Paul Haggis was hired to work on the Bond 22 script that Purvis and Wade wrote - hired earlier than he was for Casino Royale. To make sure that the script would be finished before 10/31/07 when the WGA contract expires? Or earlier because EON knew they wanted him and Haggis' schedule worked out that way?

At first, the word was that Bond 22 filming would start in January 2008. Last month, that changed to December 2007. Changed because DGA and SAG contracts expire end of June 08? Casino Royale principle filming started in Jan 06 and finished end of June 06, I think. After that is editing and post-production which the director is heavily involved in.

8) Dear ION productions,

FLORIDA IS A RIGHT-TO-WORK STATE
STATE GPVERNMENT HAS A TAX REBATE PTOGRAM FOR FILMS

daniel and friends can work in florida

WAG, SAG and other entertainment unions can't really penalized florida actors, writters and others

those unions take advantage of the right to work laws in their flavor

Another strike in the entertainment industry looms? This time the SAG (Screen Actors Guild). Somewhere recently I read June 30 is the deadline for contract renewal.

Movies still filming, like QoS, are pushing to complete filming before June 30? I wonder if, when the QoS filming schedule was determined, the producers were thinking of the SAG contract date.

Another question: does anyone know what's next on DC's schedule, after a well-deserved vacation? Any rumors? I don't think I've seen anything about what he's going to do next. Another film? A play?
