Sorry. My fault to assume everyone saw the movie. Someone actually put the entire movie on Youtube. There are nine clips. This is the first one.

I highly recommend the movie, particularly if you are interested in Francis Bacon's art. It's also one of the better movies Daniel has done.

The nude scene is the tub scene that has been posted in the forum many times before. It's in the 7th clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTz7F-B0 ... re=related

Does not it seem to you that Francis Bacon's aesthetics contaminate a bit the aesthetics of the movie?

I adore the performances, Daniel is really wonderful, Derek Jacobi do a great job, but I did not like the movie much, I suppose that I perceived it too theatrically.
We convince ourselves that we know the other person well, but do we really know anything important about anyone.

Like many art films of this nature, it tries very hard to be 'artsy.'

It´s true, also it happens slightly similarly when writers translate or when they write biographies of other writers, always something of the studied writer filters in the own writing.

I actually thought it was good exactly for this reason. The movie itself is like a study of Francis Bacon's art. So many scenes echoed his work. To me, the movie's focus is not so much on the relationship but on the mind of the artist and his inspirations for that period of time in his life. That's why I don't see it as a contamination. I don't think the movie tried too hard to be artsy either. It's not pretentious and it didn't try to make audience feel good.

I continued thinking what you wrote and I believe that you have reason. I saw the vids of youtube and looked for some pictures in google. It´s true, is a study of the art of bacon, as the same title of the movie notices, I will have to take value and "will have" to return to see the movie from this point of view :D

The movie does make a lot of sense if you see it that way. I have to thank my hubby for this because he was the one who pointed out the connection between the shots and Francis Bacon's artwork.

Well here I am. I knew it was just a matter of time until I happened upon this scene. Well what else can I do but contribute to the "scientific research"? What says the gallery? I say north.
