New James Bond drops in for pint
Daniel Craig
was left alone in the pub
It was Guinness in a quiet corner of north Wales for James Bond, rather than a shaken and not stirred martini.

Regulars at the Tafarn Pen-y-Bont near Pwllheli, Gwynedd, were astonished when Daniel Craig dropped in with a friend.

But the Llyn peninsula pub owners said although locals were very excited, none disturbed his privacy.

And, disappointingly for female fans of the star whose physique gained much attention as he rose from the sea in Casino Royale, only men were there.

"Even though he was wearing a cap a few of the lads knew who he was and they were texting each other in the bar," said the pub owner, Mrs Williams.

"It was funny - nobody wanted to approach him.

"The pub was largely full of men because there had been sports on the TV on Saturday afternoon - there were no women here.

"I think it would have been totally different if there had been women here."

Mrs Williams, who moved to Sarn Mellteyrn from Dublin, has been running the pub with her husband since last February.

She may not have been as star-struck as others, as her son now runs her taxi company in Dublin, which has chauffeured the likes of actor Colin Farrell.

"I ran the company in the Sandymount area of the city for 10 years and there was a recording studio nearby," she said.

"Dublin is a very trendy place now".

Mrs Williams said there had been speculation about the 007 star's visit to the Llyn, a popular tourist area.

The Chester-born actor was also seen, Mrs Williams said, walking along the beach at Llanbedrog on Sunday.

Local speculation has been that he might be looking for a house in the area while others thought he might be visiting family.

It might not quite be a mystery on the scale Bond would be expected to solve, although Mrs Williams reckoned: "There's never smoke without fire."
